The amendment is now LIVE!!!
The 17th edition was clear on this, but the 18th edition literally got rid of the one mention of this rule even though it was still supposed to apply. They've added it back thanks to moi 😎
Honestly props to the CMOS editors—they've been great!

A thing that pisses me off re: AI in #editing conversations is...what kind of conversations could we be having if we didn't have to talk about AI all the time? Like all the professional development, #creativity, heart and soul of editing that we could be discussing instead of AI.

This piece on multilingual editing by Natalia Iwanek is full of heart, layered and thought-provoking. Make time to read and pause, watch yourself navigate your day with all the languages inside you. That's how we can resist, bear witness, hold humanity accountable.

My 7yo is ill. I'm not the preferred cook in our household. But I made a light khichuri yesterday with yellow moong dal (easy to digest), cauliflower and peas, and my child wanted seconds. My child likes to cook. Maybe he will make it for me one day. #FoodStories
Vegetarians! Vegans! Anyone who enjoys cooking! Here's a thread of recipes for the veggie / vegan dishes I cook regularly and which have helped me massively cut down on the amount of meat I eat these days. First, a cheap, easy., quick dal which *everyone* should be able to cook:

Copy of Amazing Asia: An Encyclopaedia of an Epic Continent, surrounded by Lego lies on a coffee table. The intricate cover artwork is embossed gold, and shaded night sky blue to peachy pink from top to bottom. Like a dual-bordered sari. Title lettering in the middle is a patchwork of prints in pink, yellow, dark blue and brown.
The Great Wall of China, built in a rectangle with multi-coloured Lego. There are three blocks depicting the towers at the far end.
Gratitude post to thank @rashmiwriting.bsky.social and Jason Lyons for a magical book and excellent learning resource. We borrowed *Amazing Asia* from the library, but my child likes it so much, he wants his own copy. He even made his own Great Wall of China! #books #libraries #homework
An exceptionally thoughtful presentation on conscious language use & ethical editing, identifying colonial perspectives, and assessing how & when to intervene in the written word as editors. Pause, reflect, share, initiate & continue those difficult conversations.

Odd, indeed, to get that response. In fact, in such situations I've often checked in with the PE/PM to ask if they've received any updates from the author that may be causing delays and that I might be unaware of.
Depending on what the schedule is, I decide on a reasonable length of time to wait for a response from the author after initial contact and send a follow-up. If I don't hear back after one or two follow-ups (again, how many depends on schedule), I will ask the PE to nudge the author.
Yay! Amber is an excellent presenter. This will be great.
