Yes! I really hate having to go to the suburbs for things. This S Mpls Mom wants more kid friendly stuff downtown. We love spending a day taking the train downtown, but the one Museum and library only keep us so busy.

Man, I sometimes forget how privileged I was when I had to walk to catch the bus to work bc I had to get rid of my car bc it was too expensive. I just loved strutting around, a privileged pedestrian, walking 3 blocks to the bus, then another 5 blocks after I got off. Good times.

I've been with MPS for 5 years, 2 as a secretary, 3 as Education Support Professional (ESP). The district cut 1/3 of ESPs from our school last year. Many students get ignored bc there's just too many kids who need assistance at the same time & we can't be everywhere all at once.

Teachers are told to take a few more students every year, secretaries given more duties, edu support professionals told to juggle nonstop calls for assistance. Meanwhile, our pay is abysmal & we're called selfish for wanting cost of living raises & affordable insurance.

Public Schools have lost students and state funding that follows each student for years to private & charter schools. Our funding has also failed to keep up with inflation. School staff, from teachers to secretaries to building engineers are doing more work with fewer staff than needed.

Iowa went all-in on school choice. It's hurting this city's public schools With school choice programs ascendant not just in Iowa but across the U.S., Cedar Rapids offers a preview of who wins and who loses when education meets the free market.

Minneapolis Public School District has been facing this kind of assault for two decades now. RT Rybak and his business philanthropy pals have opened more than 110 charter schools in Minneapolis! More than 110! It's a wonder the district still exists at all.

Lol, no, but she clapped for her and cheered on the person who said that our city council doesn't represent all of us.

Also, I had a job where my boss & a coworkers talked shit about homeless encampments, so I started looking for a new job! It wasn't easy to job hunt for the 2nd time in a year after a COVID layoff, with a 1 year old and a laid off partner. Leaving bad jobs is hard but not impossible.

I had so much I wanted to say to her. She was really rude and not really interested in listening to me, though.

😂 I guess I'm ok being condescended to if ppl think I'm a 20-something.

I had several buddies surrounding me, so overall I had a good time. And we got great ppl endorsed and now I'm on my way to dinner with my family ❤️
All in all, a good day. I did miss you though, Ms. Maas!

Now that Mpls politics has wrapped up, I'm headed to St. Paul for wings and fries, maybe a sandwich

4 days ago 2 0 0 0

A little of both. She says it's rude and "we're all DFL and need to support each other."

She also said that, "like you, you had to teach where there were jobs, just like she had to take a first job where she could." I'm not a teacher, not that she asked. I was wearing my MFE shirt, I'm an ESP.

100% Why spend all that time vying for an endorsement and then not stand by the endorsement? Throw all your support behind the candidate who earned it??

... acknowledging you're kind of redundant & demonstrating you're less organized, but then saying you won't abide & are going to keep running, thereby actively attempting to divide community bc YOU care a lot is the most egotistical & white-lady-ing shit & a quick way to lose my respect

Said person chided me for turning my back when Julie Le spoke & for voting to support to endorse against the proposed charter amendment that would take power away from the city council to confirm some mayoral appointments.

A fun thing when you're progressive & sit next to a moderate is that they lecture you on things you vote for! Maybe I look younger than I am? I'm ready to yell at her that I'm almost 40 and I know what I'm voting for & I've been at about a dozen of these things! #OldModerateDemocratsLeaveMeAlone

Last week I was right by the back door of the SD63 convention and ppl were so loud and chatty. It was very annoying.

At-Large candidates Christin Crabtree & Collin Beachy endorsed overwhelmingly. Collin said, "In Minneapolis Public Schools we don't have a police force, but you all showed the entire world that we have an army," referring to the work that educators & caregivers have done in Mpls during metro surge.

It's another convention Saturday! I'm excited to endorse @christin-with-mpls.bsky.social and Becca Dryden for school board. I'm an MPS Mom and Education Support Professional and we need better leadership to make our schools stronger. Fingers crossed I'm home for dinner with my MPS kiddo 🤞🏻

I love my current job as an Education Support Professional, but the pay is very low and it's physical work, that will be very hard to keep up with in my 50s and 60s. If you have any words of wisdom, please share! I'm also interested in a career track that wouldn't require grad school!

This may be a silly question, but, what should someone interested in urbanism, politics, education, history, green energy & climate pursue in grad school? I'm interested in MURP programs & Social Studies 5-12 Teacher licensure programs. My main concern, though, is actually getting a job.

What is going on here. I don't know a lot of true blue super active DFL types for whom it even occurs to them to say "I'm not a Republican."
