surely no army in military history has ever been laid low by disease, a famously uncommon problem among people living in enforced close quarters

It's just not acceptable to have a "medically complex" kid who appears to be in shock and put forth no effort to characterize his "medical complexity" (which comes with an umbilicus to xiphoid scar!) when investigating the source of his shock
I had an absolutely brutal call shift last night and it was made markedly worse by my least favorite ED attending doing the things that he does (being bad at his job).
I love ED docs and try to hold in mind that I don't see most of the good decision making. But this guy is killing your reputation
When my daughter was an infant in the PACU she woke up screaming and I promptly swaddled her like this and awed the PACU nurses and had to teach them how to do it
The most loathsome part of government/military bureaucracy is how everyone treats policies that make routine parts of one's work significantly worse for themselves or customers as if they are immutable words of god. They're not, they have a signature block, just go talk to that person!
That the supervisor was immediately able to identify which customer service person I'd spoken to based on my recounting of the interaction does not bode well for him today.
Anyway, that's what it took to *get an appointment* for next week, not even the clearing itself
When I talked to the supervisor and her deputy and they both said that’s insane and that he shouldn’t have said that and that they'll get rid of that policy. They also told me there was an option for me to just do a walk-in to drop off all my gear that I should've been told about.
…
Me: Yeah. It's a giant waste of my time.
Them: Well it's the policy.
Me: Ok I'll see you when I see you.
<30 minutes later)
I made an appointment without them ever even looking at all the documents they told me I needed to bring. Then I asked them who their supervisor was and where they worked
…
Them: You have to do it in person and bring your orders.
Me: My orders don't even have my final out date on them.
Them: You have to bring your terminal leave as well
Me: It sounds like you're having me bring this stuff in bc you don't believe me
Them: “Is there a problem with that?”
…
How to make a CIF clearing appointment:
Out brief: You must use the online portal
Website: No appointments available
Phone: You have to come and make an appointment in person so you can show us a copy of your orders
Me: Can’t I just tell you final out date and make an appointment on the phone?
…
I actually said to my wife, “Oh he’s gonna swaddle them right” bc the blanket was positioned properly (feet toward a corner) for an excellent swaddle. Then he fucked it all up
Robby’s swaddle job at the end of tonight’s Pitt was absolutely dog shit. Clearly never rotated in a NICU. Needs a NICU or nursery nurse to teach him
lol, if anything oil companies are going to take refined US product, load it on ships and sail it to Europe, Asia, or the ME to arbitrage the higher spot prices there; which will drive up our prices here
A thoughtful person might ask how, of the domestic supply lines that could be readily retooled, how many foreign countries have key roles in those supply chains that would be subject to interference from governments that don't approve of our wars and are mad about the tariff debacles
We have a pillow in my house that's stamped as property of a hospital I used to work at a decade ago. I have no idea why it's in my house but refuse to throw it away on the grounds that I must've brought it home for a good reason, even if I don't know it any more
This is a political version of the Kendrick-Drake feud. Can't wait for Pope Leo to drop a Papal "Not Like Us"
I'd think twice before passing you on the right, that's for sure.
Posting a picture of him looking youthful with an attractive woman while mocking him about using a disposable cup is the whole thing they get mad about others doing isn't it?
The biggest thing in your favor with this setup is that you're a much bigger hazard to others than yourself
One of the big downsides of being a physician parent is that you know lots of easy ways to alleviate your childrens' myriad minor complaints which they extrapolate to an ability to eradicate all discomfort if they can rouse you to action. No matter how many times you say there's nothing you can do

There's a hilarious meta layer about you wanting social media participants to be different than they are in this.
Really looking forward to JD Vance campaigning for Netanyahu later this year.
Yes I know the Golf channel has it on, but it's not as good as the main broadcast.
I'm post-call and tired and just want to watch the Masters and have Jim Nantz lull me into a nap but it the broadcast doesn't start for 90 minutes.
If you ever call a hospital and a doctor answers the first thing you need to say is, "Do not panic and do not try to put me on hold. Please set the phone on the desk and find *anyone else* to help me."
I am so disappointed in the NYT Magazine story about persistent vegetative states and covert consciousness. The piece is one sided and credibly quotes many with fringe views. It is going to cause more distress for patients and families already enduring tragedies
I've said for a long time that if the social safety net were described to rich people as "riot insurance" we'd have a lot easier time funding it
The most competent and cogent peace movement in the US is among active duty service members
what if we just gave all the jsoc money to the navy
