Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.

This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.

Had an absolutely lovely time at the OBNA meeting. Great questions, multiple sign ups on the spot. Help get us to 1500 and join your neighbors in reducing trash! www.blackearthcompost.com/newport

I had a delightful evening with the folks of the off broadway neighborhood association, sullied by nary an elected official 😇

It looks like it was advertised in accordance with the law but putting it on SOS is different from actually advertising to the community.

I continue to be bothered to no end that the School Committee meetings aren’t listed on the City website. The SC has its own page on the school website, but they are city meetings so they should still be listed in the city calendar. I don’t think folks know to go to the school or SOS page.

I have just learned that there will be a School Committee budget workshop at 5:30pm tonight at Pell: opengov.sos.ri.gov/Common/Downl...
I can’t make it because of my previous commitment but it is clear the SC needed more budget discussion after their meeting and the workshop with the city.

Book Talk with Elizabeth Rush - Presented by the Friends of the JPL The Friends of the JPL welcome author Elizabeth Rush to discuss her book The Quickening: Antarctica, Motherhood, and Cultivating Hope in a Warming World. On Antarctica: Creation...

Plus she’s a local author and will be doing a book talk in Jamestown on Monday, May 4: jplri.libcal.com/event/16594673
If you read this book, please tell me your thoughts! Her book Rising inspired one of my tattoos - I can’t wait to meet her and totally creep her out when I tell her that!

Friday my Earth Day festivities continue with a book club discussion of The Quickening by Elizabeth Rush. This event isn’t open to the public but I just had to share because this book is so wonderful and beautiful and I want everyone to read it.

And finally, on Thursday, a plug for a @climateactionri.org event that I sadly won’t be able to attend because I have a conflicting work meeting. (Yes, I have a job that is not live posting municipal meetings- I know that is shocking).

Newport City Council Regular Meeting - April 22, 2026

We will have to zip out of Ragged Island to get to my main event: City Council. As ever, 6:30pm in Chambers or streaming online. I haven’t looked at the agenda in detail (don’t be mad at me) but it seems short: cityofnewport.granicus.com/GeneratedAge...

I sort of think these actually might be worse than nothing, but maybe I’m wrong.

There’s one part of America’s Cup in Newport that has these for, I kid you not, probably ten feet. I don’t understand what that’s supposed to do. Trucks blocking the bike lane can just park before or after the pole section. Plus the bike lane is only a few feet wide, so they really just box you in.

Donald Trump is once again threatening war crimes. Not one more penny for this dangerous war and this disastrous administration.

All federal wind power R&D at the Department of Energy is $0.137 billion. So the government is paying 7x the amount it spends on all wind power R&D just for a fee to kill one wind project. Seems bad.

This is a question for resident pigeon enthusiast @rosemarymosco.com

2 days ago 3 0 0 0

Yes, pigeons are very “look at these sticks on the ground, it is for my babies” type birds. I wonder if this was another bird’s nest first or if the pigeon saw the stakes and thought “amazing, now I don’t have to find my own sticks”.

Thank you @wheatoncollege.bsky.social for giving me the gift of the Wheatones, who are my sisters across eras and have shaped my life in so many ways. It was a Wheatone who connected me to my kidney recipient, so Wheatones literally save lives.

Now for something totally different - I returned to my alma mater for the 80th anniversary of my college a cappella group and it was a beautiful weekend that reminded me how much music fills my heart. And yes I did cry while answering questions about this event.
