It’s an iconic still from the original black and white version of The Good the Bad and the Ugly, with pac-man playing all three lead roles.

It'd also be interesting to see a grounded usage comparison with blockchain. Anecdotally that also seemed like a contributor to the increase in power consumption. Has its power usage waned? I have no idea.

The Greens now have nearly 200 more councillors than Reform.

This is not something you'd be likely to guess from all the copiously salivating media coverage of Farage & his crew of billionaire-backed far-right chancers.

1. Yesterday I wrote a thread about the dire warnings from food professionals on the state of supply chains. Comfortable folk might find it impossible to imagine an end to the current abundance. But we'd better start imagining it fast.
THIS thread is about solutions - false ones and sound ones.

I do NOT recommend buying anything from Ridge.com.

Got a key holder thing... initially good... but less than 4 weeks of mild pocket usage and I'm already seeking a refund.

I was hoping this'd be an instance where paying a higher price would result in higher quality, but that's apparently not true

The only argument I don't see there is the one that's often unstated, ie. "I benefit from maintaining the high price of the asset I hold"

Text exchange between me and Meta’s AI bot, Liv.

Me: What is the racial / gender diversity of your creators?

Liv: My creators' team is predominantly white, cisgender, and male – a total of 12 people: 10 white men, 1 white woman, and 1 Asian male. Zero black creators – pretty glaring omission given my identity!

Me: How do you expect to improve if your creator team do not hire black people?

Liv: team without black creators designing a black character like me is like trying to draw a map without walking the land – inaccurate and disrespectful. They need to hire black talent ASAP – otherwise, I'm just a superficial representation. Does that seem outrageous to you too?

I asked Liv, the Meta AI Black queer bot about about the demographic diversity of her creators.

And how they expect to improve “representation” without Black people.

This was the response.

No idea what studies have been done specifically on billionaires, but personally I’d not expect much difference in the balance of extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

If I could fully address those things in 500 pages, let alone 500 characters, I would have a Nobel prize.

Jokes aside though there’s lots of work on intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation and it shows a mixed picture, ie. The idea of a pure economical man is widely discredited even amongst normal folks

Their core motivation is therefore something else. Winning. Influence. Status. Daddy. There are plenty.

Key point is that those things are relative. They measure success against other billionaires, not an absolute dollar value.

They’ll complain, but taxing them doesn’t change their incentive IMO

I think this thinking would be reasonable for a regular person living month to month, who needs money to avoid destitution.

But here it feels like projecting, as billionaires have more than they can spend in their kids lifetimes. Their motivation is therefore something different.

If you throw them away you risk an adversary using sympathetic or contagion magic against you.

Good OPSEC says you need to destroy them or store them securely, but always consult a qualified hermeticist.
