New preprint alert! 🦠🔬
We quantitatively evaluated the swimming and flagellar movement of Chattonella, a red-tide alga.
Chattonella has two unequal flagella, and we found a positive correlation between anterior flagellum length and swimming speed. #protistonsky

Excited to share that I've joined EABIAS (East Asia Bioimage Analysts’ Society) following the recent GloBIAS Bioimage Analysis Conference 2025!
Happy to be part of this community. よろしくお願いします&請多指教!

Safely back in Hokkaido! Had a wonderful time at #GloBIAS2025 in Kobe.
The atmosphere of mutual support was fantastic!
Huge thanks to everyone who interacted with me!
(Our university mascot, Muropyon, enjoyed the beautiful Kobe night view too! 🌃) #GloBIAS
Going to Kobe for GloBIAS Bioimage Analysis Conference 2025! A bit at a loss what to wear, as we're already using the heater here in Muroran, Hokkaido.🥶

Oxygen gradients shape E. coli motility patterns as they run away from O2! - 😍
Asked similar question before but I try again. Anyone knows proteins that localize like this? This protein is present in diplonemids/bodonids/euglenids/Naegleria, which have two flagella, but not in trypanosomatids that have just one flagellum. Potentially interesting for flagella/cilia community?
We have posted our new #preprint regarding the track recognition mechanism of dynein-2 that works in #cilia on bioRxiv @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social!!

Interesting. I’m not very familiar with Alphafold, so I didn’t know that.
It’s interesting that all versions of Alphafold distort large extended proteins to ‘globularise’ them. It’s fine for people that understand those helices are ‘bent’ but for non experts it’s confusing. 🫤 🤔 It happens a lot and isn’t well discussed in the community.

Proud to be part of this paper published in @naturecomms.bsky.social. Using high-speed AFM, we have visualized the real-time translocation of substrate polypeptide by the single molecule of SecYEG-SecA!!!

Did you know #diatoms are motile? These tiny glass cells have no cilia or flagella and a rigid body yet can glide on surfaces using a specialised slit in the cell wall called the raphe! What is the functional morphology of the raphe? All revealed in our new preprint
