It really is a huge failure to recognize evil that the guy who's destroying mainstream media looks like a villain in a straight-to-video REVENGE OF THE NERDS sequel www.thewrap.com/media-platfo...

Status Scoop | ProPublica's Walkout Warning: The possibility of ProPublica staffers walking off the job just got far more serious. Unionized staffers at the nonprofit newsroom voted overwhelmingly this week to authorize a strike, Natalie Korach has learned. The ProPublica Guild represents about 150 journalists, videographers, and other newsroom employees. A major sticking point in the negotiations with management has centered on the use of artificial intelligence in reporting, with the union demanding protections from having jobs replaced by the rapidly advancing technology. “We are ready to walk off the job to show management that their refusal to agree to basic protections will not be tolerated and that we will not accept anything less than a fair contract,” said Agnel Philip, unit chair of ProPublica Guild.
these are the best reporters in the country, give them whatever the fuck they want

This WB shit is just so depressing. RIP CBS and CBS News. Hopefully not RIP my husbands job😤😬
Across the street from my daughters nursery school, this price is nuts but there def will be buyers!
Great point. One thing I'd add: in America, we now have an entire media ecosystem devoted to making billionaires feel like they're the oppressed heroes of an Ayn Rand novel.
It's not a new observation at this point but that wild Noem/Lewandowski story in WSJ really brings home the extent to which all the Trump 2 cabinet-level goblins see their jobs as flying private, doing short-form video, and screaming at underlings. They all hate each other and none of them can read.
A thing that annoys me about the Axios newsletter is that the tone is consistently “I am one of the top experts on this thing I learned about five minutes ago.” Also that they have 280 sources in the White House but their only source on the left is Rep. Capitulate Middle (D).

I sometimes wonder what the world would look like if a generation of tech, science, and business reporters hadn't decided that the press release was the news
While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.
I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
Ur an amazing reporter and this stinks, im so so sorry
would try again in a heartbeat if folks hit me up
Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests
the fact that wapo is closing every single part of the newspaper that attracts readers in order to focus on vertical short form video and opinion columns makes it very clear that the bezos takeover isn't about business. it's not even about propaganda. it's about showing off his power and clout
there's this new dynamic where the DOJ cannot win in court and is (relatedly) incapable of meeting the minimum threshold of professional legal conduct, and so an increasing percentage of its actions are purely for intimidation and content
The Bari Weiss plan is for CBS News to employ fewer reporters charged with finding things out and more (right-skewing) commentators charged with telling them what to think. Same playbook Wash Post is using. www.npr.org/2026/01/27/n...
Everything happening at CBS makes me so sad. I loved working there, and am thinking of all my friends still in the BC today.
Shes been so explicitly awful the past few months-like how do these people live w themselves
these people never had any intention of battling a tyrannical government, they wanted to be able to accuse minorities at the walmart of shoplifting and then execute them for it
I think more of you should be getting your news from photographers. Here’s a thread. Most aren’t here. Sorry, you’ll have to branch out.

every single goddam crisis happening right now is self imposed
Just purely in terms of phrasing, “it was reportable because of the reporting and the reporters” is an embarrassingly inept explanation, like something Ron Burgundy would yell.
If you're constantly rewarded for being terrible at your job, you convince yourself that you're not terrible because if you were terrible, why would you keep moving up, the problem here is that some people are terrible in a way that's convenient to those in power, and their ego cannot admit that
I cannot emphasize how much “be the news” is the opposite of what I was taught about how to be a good journalist and strikes me as an excellent way to churn out elite solipsism that has nothing to do with the public interest and everything to do with self promotion www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/b...
Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.
Its so good, started in Westport CT!
Morherhood is so wild, the things ur body does is so weird, no one ever tells you about any of it either!
A CBS News staffer told me this after Tony Dokoupil kicked off his CBS Evening News tenure tonight with a lengthy Pete Hegseth interview:
"If this is what Bari and Tony’s CBS Evening News is going to look like, then the we may as well just call ourselves Trump Administration State TV. Pathetic."
To be fair you have to give Bari Weiss credit for unearthing obscure local characters like a mayor, a Senator, and a Governor.
