Hmm.

That one I think wasn't the wrong GENERATION, it was the wrong console. The Saturn is full of 'em.
I can't do screenshot Saturday this week because I'd be showing you something you're really not supposed to see. ๐
Oh yeah, everything I ever do from now on is designed for the Deck first and people can deal with the rest themselves, but that's because I'm Deck obsessed.
Most RELEVANT reason now is the Deck running at 16:10 but if I'm doing that anyway I might as well do 4:3 etc etc etc you can see why this spirals off into dull bollocks for hours.
Dull as fuck. Can't even put it in a Devlog really, can you?
"Spent six weeks making sure you can change the aspect ratio and the UI doesn't go dodgy for the six people who still have a 4:3 monitor for some reason. I don't know."
Thrilling.
I have always 100% agreed with that (and still do, don't worry).
One of the most boring considerations of #gamedev. Are you ready?
Being in an options/pause/something menu and pressing 'B' (or equivalent) so the options cursor goes straight to 'Back/Exit/Whatever'.
Fun. Times.
Silly string? To me, it's just string.
Yellow paint for railroading in contextual environments in game and level design?
Very unrealistic.
Yeah, and GG Shinobi I & II are basically the same but they're absolutely nothing like Revenge or the Master System one and then there's the PS2 one and... Just... Mental. Great! But mental. So varied. Bizarre unique little series for the lineage and time involved.
There's this big weird gulf in design between every single Shinobi game where it's like... If these weren't all CALLED the same thing, I don't know if I'd believe they're the same series.
I do not appreciate the quotation marks, Ryan.
Plus it is clearly a car racing event between characters. Nobody is going to agree to take part at all if Sonic says "well I'll just RUN, then!" are they?
Let's be real, I'd call it a Soulslike for marketing purposes but with things like "now with checkpoints!" And "persistent progress between deaths!" and "solid lock-on targeting!" and eventually you'll realise it's just Ocarina of Time.
The goose from Untitled Goose Game taking on Slappy the Dummy in a Soulslike boss fight with a dagger in its beak is my new dream game.
...Gooseborne
Okay cool. I picked it up yesterday, I didn't know if I was missing something. Enjoying it so far!
Has it got a... Run button? Or is it just the roll?
I love designing just a normal classic medieval fantasy setting with locations like; the abandoned ruins of a castle, a lonely old library, and big giant evil lazer that turns you into dust

Jesus that's beautiful. I'm in.
Listen. I'll be as direct with you all as I can.
Whatever I do that may or may not get me in trouble, whatever the back-and-forth philosophical debates are, when I'm developing games now, on this (eventual but inevitable) return, they're all secondary to one key thing:
Whatever. It. Takes.
Thing I heard long time ago (sadly can't remember where), if you were gonna do a self-deprecating thing as a comedic bit, do a self-aggrandizing comedic bit instead. Same effect, you're just not putting yourself down in the process.
Hence the Shiny Golden God.
I have a mandatory office attendance day on Monday for my normal boring day job.
Anyway...

This is one of those things that was really boring and dull, but it needed doing, so now it's done, and I never have to do it again. Thrilling, I know.

Question. Did anyone ever develop a PSX emulator that wasn't primarily concerned with accuracy, and instead lets you do things like "skip loading times because it's running on a PC"? Or was that never anyone's consideration?

I think you should keep going. Not to sound dramatic or anything but this could be a very big deal. Why not be loud and proud about it?
Miserable, isn't it? Like attending a seminar presented by the colour beige.
Everything said in that quote sounds like a flipchart talking to a PowerPoint presentation in a board meeting for sleeping millionaires.
