A couple of other things about Beetle's Bauble
- it's nestled in what is commonly called Badlands, where large amounts of dangerous wild monsters roam and weathers' crazy and magically charged
- its a coastal city used as the base for the international coalition the Kraken Defense Force
The setting is a hodgepodge of 1920s-1930s and the city is described as fantasy art deco Mexico/Philippines were everyone is from somewhere else
Of all the factions and conquerors that placed their stake on it. The wizard is long dead, but the city continues to grow, sometime painfully sometimes with class, but it continues on. Beetles Bauble the city of small innovations.
These rest is history as the town builds around the tiny tower and then expands to a city which becomes conquered and colonized by almost every empire and kingdom exchanging hands of rule like the seasons. After a time the city eventually becomes self ruling and becomes a city state independent...
And in the rubble is a miniature replica tower and from it emerges a stag beetle holding a glass Bauble that was the wizards pseudo phylactery in its pinchers. Turns out the wizard has been now living their life as a stag beetle and continued their magical studies in a much smaller scale...
The main setting of a comic and a ttrpg I'm working on is a city called Beetle's Bauble. It's named that because it was "founded" by a renegade wizard whose tower got destroyed in a hurricane along with the wizard. A couple of decades later an adventuring party finds the destroyed tower...
Oh man I would've loved to see this movie on the big screen and have the energy of the crowd
Just saw Hundreds of Beavers last night and I can safely say the praise this movie has gotten from people and the glowing recommendations from friends is well earned imo.
Just great goofs and super charming from start to end
For real, like there's such a buffet of good stuff out and imo Sung Jinwoo is the least interesting thing about Solo Leveling. I actually think the world is neat with modern governments having to deal with dungeons and now heroes and it's just used as set dressing to say "look how cool Jinwoo is~"
I get mad seeing Solo Leveling being in the nominated category AGAIN when we have absolute great stuff like Frieren and JK and Apothecary. It's fine and the fight animation is gorgeous, but like there really really good stuff out there that I feel like gloss over cause it's not easy shonen or isekai

A screen shot of looks from a ttrpg I am developing Anomalnaught Looks Travelling in a pseudoscape is weird and requires unconventional things that make you visible to others in the party. It is proven that the more perceptible you are in a pseudoscape the higher the chance there is of returning home safely Strings of battery operated string lights around your person, a jacket dipped in glow in the dark paint, bands of high vis reflective material, smattering of neon colored clothes A chest rig of multiple camera mounts for sports recorders and smartphones, a bandolier of necklaces and charms from various denominations, a loud antique or vintage dramatic coat, patches held on with safety pins of sigils and powerful symbols A modified motorcycle or safety helmet with light up outlines, homemade big full head enclosing paper mache mask, obnoxiously big brimmed hat, mascot or fursuit head
If you're gonna go up against the high strangeness and weirdness of a pseudoscape, you gotta dress the part.

I absolutely love this movie and the incredible alley fight scene
Another sneak peak of a new zine I'm working on!
BW ink illustration of a glade in the middle of a forest, a figure sits in front of a fire, towering above them is a single pillar, or column, or fragment of architecture from a bygone era.
You pass the treeline and are welcomed to a sudden glade. The sky, already in the throws of the darkening blues past twilight, is speckled with the bright orange sparks of a fire. A figure in repose stares intently at a fragment of antiquity, a silent pylon from a bygone era...

A problem I think I run into with making mechanics for games Is I make some, write up a couple dozen pages, take a break and make a new game and come up with mechanics that feel better and think - would this be better in the previous game?
Check out this blog post by @macashton.bsky.social whom I am working with to illustrate the cover of their novel Whiteout! You can see a lil of the behind the scenes of my process of working with someone to make an illustration!

Hell everyone! My name is JD and I am a comic book writer, Media/Communication Scholar, and a big ole fan of Comics, music (especially metal) and games (video, table top, tcg and role-playing).
My main gig at a refugee non-profit keeps me super busy, but be on the lookout for cool stuff in 2025!
