If you ever want to give up writing fanfiction, scroll r/ao3 for a while so a bunch of human tar pits can tell you you're entitled for wanting engagement with your work and that fandom isn't collaborative and fanfic appears whole cloth out of the nether simply to be consumed.

CREATURE KITCHEN is an extremely charming, odd little game about cooking for the weird little freaks who haunt your property. $8 USD and finished in ~3 hours, it's EXACTLY the kind of creepy/cute, low-poly/retro-esque shit I'm into. Impeccable vibes.

Imagine being one of the EN boys who just moved to Japan (Hakka) to focus on their career and finding out all their Japanese colleagues were just basically set adrift.

Anyway, it sucks. I enjoy a lot of those boys. I genuinely don't think a lot of them are going to stick with it. The ones who do are really going to struggle. I'm sad for Uproar! in particular...no more lives? No more original songs unless they fund it themselves? That's rough.

Do I KNOW that Cover cowered at the idea of championing their boys at the perceived risk of damaging the girls and angering their fans? No, I don't. Do I know that the community is gross and toxic and that talents who regularly support and uplift each other across the divide feel better to watch?

Gender segregation to protect the illusion of purity, to the point that fans behave as if vtubing is exclusively a girl thing? Male vtubers are "weird" as though dudes aren't already wildly successful streamers and pop stars?

I can make plenty of conjecture about why this happened, and I don't know if any of it's actually true, but as a fan and viewer I can contest that the vibes overall are rancid. Cover made Virtual Idols and cheerfully fostered all the toxic bullshit that comes with Idol culture.
