Have you ever seen a baby have a seizure from meningitis? I have.
Have you seen a baby die from whooping cough? I have.
Have you seen a baby intubated with epiglottis? I have.
Thanks to RFK jr, you may soon see these things as well, as the US wipes away decades of medical progress.

Original 1925 jacket cover of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby
Here is a novel, glamorous, ironical, compassionate a marvellous fusion into unity of the curious incongruities of the life of the period which reveals a hero like no other one who could live at no other time and in no other place. But he will live as a character, we surmise, as long as the memory of any reader lasts.
"There was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life. ..
It was an
extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again?"
It is the story of this Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous er-tertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe.
It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.

-FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

Most people are not political scientists using formal definitions. So I am curious when is the moment that people tell themselves "oh, I live under an authoritarian government now." Because what else is this?

Why are American taxpayers going to bail out scam artists losing money in the crypto markets?

We are going to borrow more money to pump it into the crypto market to enrich scammers and leeches who produce nothing of value for humanity?

This is called fraudulent accounting, and it’s what Trump was found criminally guilty of by a New York court.

This kind of thing really bugs me. Trump does not define who we are as a nation, nor our moral compass as a nation. We the People do.

Putin can’t believe his luck. Here is Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov on Trump: “The new administration is fast changing all foreign policy configurations…This coincides with our vision in many ways.”

Trump now backs dictatorship, not democracy. We cannot allow that to stand.

Imagine being a teenage girl now. Your male peers are all watching Andrew Tate and doing Nazi salutes and every week the most prestigious magazines in the world run a piece about how it’s a social emergency that you’re not having babies in the 10th grade.

Regarding the upcoming State of the Union, Democrats should not go. Find a public square that you can all go to deliver the response. Don’t worry about normalcy or institutions, the current President has already broken all of that. The only thing that you should be worried about is not normalizing what he is doing to America.

In January 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt answered the "America First" of his day - and foresaw the "America First" of ours:

"We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests."

Between 2010 and 2024, CDC estimates that flu resulted in an estimated 9.3 million to 41 million illnesses, 120,000 to 710,000 hospitalizations and 6,300 to 52,000 deaths annually.

That’s *with* widespread use of the flu vaccine.

As the Texas outbreak grows, how contagious is measles, really? Vaccination eliminated measles from the U.S. 25 years ago. But it can still spread in pockets where vaccination rates are low, like the west Texas county with a current outbreak. Here's how fast.

One consequence of the resistance to established science is the way it forces scientists and journalists to re-prove and remind people of what is true. NPR has a story noting why measles are a big deal: It's one of the most contagious diseases on Earth. loom.ly/WMZO9pw
