Pragmatics in Contested Interpretation This open access book shows how reality paradigms play a significant role in shaping audience views of political figures and their intentions.

Ever wondered how two people, hearing the same person say the same words in the same context with the same intonation can come to two wildly different interpretations as to what was meant?

Understand why here with our new, open access book:

Had a great time today chatting with @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social about Language, Pragmatics and Cliches. Looking forward to the episode “It’s not what we say, it’s how we say it!” on R4’s Word of Mouth later this month.

“If”? “might”?

Of course it will.

Day 8 - 16 days of activism against gender-based violence By Kim Moore

Day 8 - 16 days of activism. Brilliant presentation from @derekbousfield.bsky.social and @helenmort.bsky.social today on the language of gaslighting - which inspired me to go and look for some examples in my own poetry, and I found one! open.substack.com/pub/kimmoore...

Survey of the word "Wonky" I am working on a project for one of my classes and have chose the word "wonky" to collect some data on. Basically I am trying to get an idea of where about in the world the word is used, how its used...

My community college sociolinguistics students are making their first participant surveys - help us out by adding your thoughts on "wonky!"

Best of luck. Has your PhD supervisory team offered you a mock viva? What do your university’s regs say about the areas of any thesis that any examining team need to satisfy themselves about re passing? You can largely predict the questions from these and hence prepare. Talk to your supervisors.
