A green arch shaded in dark purples, blues, and reds stares into the viewer through narrowed red eyes while it stands in front of a blurry landscape painted in watercolors with hatched scribbles of colored pencil. The reddish form behind the arch on the left looks to be a tree stretching into the ambiguous landscape of pastel yellows, greens, and blues.
Around the top right, bottom right, and bottom left, are abstract forms curled around the painting in shades of purples, blues, and reds. Each are wrapped around to resemble loose structures from fancy iron fences. The bottom right holds a green eye-like jewel.
Background is in watercolor, colored pencil, and foreground is painted in acrylic gouache and dark blue pencil ink. There are also light white highlights in gel pen.

A variety of ceramic pieces including sculptures and cups. A lot of them are frogs of various sizes. There’s also a bunny.
Today’s kiln-haul! This will be my first time trying ceramic jewelry 🤞

A wax model of the head of an elderly man with the skin peeled back to reveal the skull
I saw this model by Gaetano Giulio Zumbo in Paris on Saturday. He was a wax modeller who worked with a surgeon in Genoa, replicating his dissections in wax. Only two of his models survive from the end of the 17thC. I’ve posted photos of the one in La Specola in Florence before - this is the other

It’s hard to post my fiber stuff sometimes because I’m so new to it! I’ll get a lot of learning done but I’ll see my doily and think “ehhh idk”
This sounds like a habit to break

Apron made of glazed indigo-dyed cotton embroidered with multi-coloured cotton. Made from two pieces of cotton joined vertically with a band of embroidery. The apron is gathered into a deep band at the waist and tied with two long woven ribbons. The hem is trimmed with a deep edging of cotton bobbin lace, mainly in white but with red and green. The pattern is composed of bold floral and geometric motifs. There are vertical rows of petals resist-dyed onto the ground fabric.
Embroidered cotton apron. Czech, 19th century.

A large white cat on the right is sniffing a silver picture frame. The frame holds a sketch of him done in ink and light watercolor. A green shuttle tatted doily in the shape of a plant sits directly on top of the sketch, so it looks like he is hiding behind a bush. The frame is held by the person taking the photo.
My landlady’s cat got an update to some fanart that I painted of him a few months ago 😎 (photo she took of his reaction)
I will see if I can post the tatting pattern in replies

Look into your side menu and discover “feeds” for hobbies/interests you might not have gotten time to explore + learn from queer, trans, bipoc folks in general (I strike fear in people scared of DEI)
Sometimes you need side quests to stay sane. I’ve found great fiber arts accounts in bsky feeds

Painted in acrylic gouache across a sketchbook spread is a self portrait— at the bottom center is a profile shot of me, painted with a messy mullet and sideburns. I am looking straight ahead with a wide, unfocused stare. On the right and left are sketches of my legs in chunky tennis shoes and socks during a stroll around an unknown location. Legs and shoes are partially obscured by clouds. The brush strokes are quick and textured and entirely done in shades of blue.

Four sheep metatarsals that have been hollowed out to make a spoon
These little tools are apple scoops. They date from the 1800s and are made of sheep bone. They were common in apple-growing districts. The marrow has been hollowed out to allow the user to scrape off pieces of apple if they had few teeth and couldn’t afford dentures.

I cannot recommend you enough to install the Wikipedia app on your devices and use it like you would any search engine. Nowadays they even have tabs so you can open many articles at once.
And, if you can, please donate to the foundation. It has survived the internet enshittification that way.

Remember folks. The original bluesky ethos by us bluesky elders (apparently I count?) is block and move on.
Don't quote dunk, don't pick fights.
Block, and move on.
This is what made this site unpalatable to the right early on, and we can continue to make it unpalatable to them.
