A bit late into Black Friday but hey I got three courses worth of Narrative Design lessons up on sale for half price.

That's right I've published lessons from Narrative Crash Course and Strangened Narratives course online. Plus Dialogue Design!

Post a perfect album from 1989, a perfect music year.

First place I’d look is the Ultima series. Hazy memories of Ultima 3 having crafting.

I know Ultima Underworld had crafting (and a few other interesting mechanics). That launched ‘92.

Never considered myself a painter, by any means. Shaky hands, subpar fundamentals.

A friend stopped by and had the patience to teach slapshot, a bit of color theory, and a lot of brush technique.

After 5 hours, I think we did a pretty decent job. I did Cthulhu and Shoggoth.

Exploring the world of Eschaton by @archongames.bsky.social. Fun first play through. Loved the theme and (potentially) quick play.

Adventures in Self-Hosting: Brave-Go-Sync Ever since I started down this route with Glanceapp & Authentication to solve a "simple efficiency problem," the bug of wanting to move more and more services directly under my control hasn't quite st...

Self hosting is a deep, dark, rabbit hole. But it does keep my mind sharp.

If you were interested in hosting your own sync service for Brave, this pretty much sums up what needs to happen to keep everything on your own server.

It is really that useful? Debatable.

Why "Fail Fast" Needs to Die I've been putting this post off for a while. Fundamentally, because this is a problem about mindset and is sure to ruffle some feathers. However, if you bare through it, you'll see that the core idea ...

Often, when we're experimenting & iterating toward a product vision, we forget that there are externalized costs of those efforts.

Some of these costs are insidious, only showing up when the bill due is very high. Others seem cheap but cost us a lot in the long run.

Exactly this. I might be able to see the value in brainstorming ideas or blank-to-first-draft type scenarios for a lot of people.
But feeling seen or heard by it speaks loudly how much impact loneliness has had on people.

Excited for Marathon. Really interested in how the story develops and what happened to the colonists. PvP isn’t my strong suit, so if you’re in my team, from right now, sorry.

The story is top notch. Exploring the dreadnaught in explore mode has been lots of fun (and MM as well). The court has that right level of hecticness.

Met you at GIG and every time I see a post from you I always smile and think: hey! That’s the guy with ridiculously long game names. Love it.

Hopefully we’ll run into each other at GDC!

When are too many docker containers for hosted services too much?

Been having a lot of fun reconnecting with that side of my brain.

Strategy Choice Cascade In Games In the past, I've found that models like the Strategy Choice Cascade to be really helpful in defining a high level strategy that I can iterate on and drill down into. You might be tempted (as I was, e...

A (positive) consequence of thinking about this metric as the guiding light is the organic marketing that comes from it. Players are going to recommend the game to others because of the experience. We all have examples of this - GRIS, Disco Elysium, Control come to mind.
