this is a flattering picture of it, too. it doesnt usually look this appetizing
thatll be scrapple. its the dregs of the slaughterhouse floor compressed into a 5x3 patty and served hot with ketchup, home fries
i dont necessarily dislike it. ill eat anything. but intellectually i understand that this is something you feed to sick leopards at a cheap zoo, less so diner patrons
this sets a new bar for lancer art. absolutely incredible work, seriously
Now I need just need a name for the mech...
the only thing cooler than historically fucking up an unprompted war of aggression is to also intentionally make your entire military violently ill
lmao cool
its agents shorten it to "Bureau 9." nobody uses the acronym
made myself laugh with this one but i think its a keeper
a concept sheet for a mech titled "Ravenous Moon" that is styled to resemble a knight with a fanged maw engraved on its helm. To the mech's left is a sketch of a heraldric shield to match it and below are sketches of its pilot, who is visibly disheveled in one pose and kneeling before an altar with a muzzle and a collar tied to her praying hands by prayer beads in the other pose.
Mech that is a knight and its pilot who's full of worms and held together by duct tape and drug abuse
Divine, Machine and Flesh
great work as always! cant wait to see the finished result
also i hope you know this kicked off a real cool conversation on pilotnet irt spirituality's role in lancer

Shading begins
he was having a reddit argument so probably that tbh
but rolling a combined 9 isnt so likely. its very much in the realm of "it probably wont happen to me!" i want them to say that for every roll until it does
i like the idea of players getting slapped for reaching too high, for min-maxing. i like the idea of them holding like 7d6 in their hand and going "but what if i get An Event?" and then rolling anyway, because if they dont roll 7d6 they wont get the clue that could save thousands of lives
whenever you draw from either deck, you "pin" it until its resolved. if its from the Blue Deck, you pin it to the city. Red Deck, you pin it to the monster
im thinking both the city and the monster can have no more than 3 pinned cards at a time. none can be added after until one is resolved
it also cant be the same deck. itll have to be an entirely different monster-focused deck. one that represents sudden shifts in the monster's behavior, focus, and (sometimes) genetic makeup
we'll call this the Red Deck. the narrative FD will be the Blue Deck. they both follow the same rules
all of this is happening during the Discovery Phase, which is basically the "narrative" phase. takes a diegetic month or so. this gives the idea of pouring more time into a skill check more plausibility
however i still want an FD during monster raids, where the time element isnt quite so plausible
why 9? lore reasons. doesnt matter. it can be any number. ill probably change it after i test it but for now this is my fluffy placeholder
im trying to frame it like: the more dice you put into a roll, the more time you spend on that task. the more time you spend on it, the more likely you see Something Bad in the news that changes the dynamic of play. riots, martial law, assassination attempts, even the rare early monster sighting
so in other words: 6 + 3, or 5 + 4. the more dice you roll, the more likely youll pass the check, but the more likely youll trigger the FD.
the FD is full of nasty events that change the momentum of play, add stakes, or just in general fucking suck. theyre framed as news reports
the reason why you dont want to take as many dice as possible is because of the Father Deck
now im still working on the math and how the Father Deck is triggered, but right now the way im looking at it is: whenever the you roll two numbers that add up to 9, you must draw from the father deck
each memory is tied to a suite of Skills. science, persuasion, tactics. typical RPG stuff. no brainers
when you make a skill check, you take your skill # and its parent memory #, combine them, and thats your dice pool
the hook: you can take as many or as few as you want, with a minimum of 2
the higher your memory #, the more potent the it is; or, the more it means to you. certain fail conditions will reduce that potency. it doesnt mean you forget, it just means it doesnt inspire you like it used to. your character struggles to deal with the horror of the destruction theyve witnessed
