what's the policy on this? at what point do you dm a director at your company to explain that they're talking about a cinturonga in a public channel?

1 year ago 2 0 0 0

update: a director-level coworker has commented in the thread about removing the word from the profanity list, calling the word "a neutral phrase" and expressing confusion on "why it was added in the first place"
(coworker from before returned to my dms to giggle over it)

just had an argentine coworker come into my slack dms to ask me what a "strap on" was because the phrase "the strap on my shoe" got caught in the profanity filter

LANGUAGE STUDY - PARTICIPANTS NEEDED:
BLACK LGBT+ ENGLISH SPEAKERS

We’re looking for Black LGBT+ individuals to participate in a study on
LGBT+ slang usage. Much of LGBT+ slang originates in and is taken
from ballroom, vogue, and other queer, Black communities, and we
would not do justice to their origins and usages without the input of
members of these communities.

What: A 30-60 minute interview asking about your membership in /
relationship with the LGBT+ community and subcultures within that
community, as well as asking about the usage/origins of selected LGBT+
slang terms.

Eligibility: US residents over the age of 18 who identify as LGBT+ and as
Black / African American.

To sign up, please use the form below:
https://bit.ly/lgbtslanginterviews

For questions about the study, please contact Vincent N. Mariani,
vmariani@udel.edu

The IRB has finally approved interviews for the slang study! Given the lack of Black voices in the original sample and the origins of a lot of LGBT slang, I'm looking for people in those communities to provide insight in addition to those who took the survey:
