BFS Long Story Short w. the excellent T.R. Napper out now! We discuss Tim’s work, rail against the threat of A.I. to creativity and even that of technology to human memory. (If you only hear 30s listen from 28:45.) We also talk novellas, Australian publishing & the power of art to rehabilitate.

Cool.
Author wearing Quark's short, holding a copy of Asimov's, and a copy of Austral 2025. He's in front of his bookshelf, showing off his awards in the background, but also accidentally showing off some half painted Dark Angels Terminators.
1/2 Ditmar Award nominations are open and I've two works I'm particularly proud of: The Hidden God (novella), and Déjà Vécu, (short story). If you're eligible to vote (and there's a good chance you are - criteria explained in the linked article), have at it.

If you're an Asimov's reader, and enjoyed my novella, 'The Hidden God', then here's your chance to say so:
Author wearing 'Quarks Bar' shirt, holding award. Water in background, as he's standing outside in Queensland. His hair's looking good.
Shot of giant screen on stage at awards, announcing The Hidden God as the winner.
Sitting in auditorium on red chairs (looks like a cinema), brandishing award while wearing a t-shirt of the move The Thing. Next to me is a tall bloke wearing boring black shirt.
Just returned from a quick trip to Queensland, where I attended the Aurealis Awards ceremony. Absolutely elated to walk away with the win for Best Science Fiction Novella. Great night, spent with some great people.
Congrats to all the nominees and winners.
You could but it in a physical copy of Asimov's, but if you can wait a couple of months (and you should), it will appear in a new collection I will be releasing. Watch this space.

😂Looking forward to it.
Big congrats to @trnapper.bsky.social for taking out the Aurealis for the best SF novella! #scifi #sciencefiction #books @aurealisawards.bsky.social
Cheers mate
Why thank you, good sir.
And you.
Thanks Sam.
Cheers mate, appreciated.
Thanks mate.
Indeed.
Cheers Ryan.
The Aurealis Award shortlist just dropped and I'm thrilled to receive two nods - SF Short Story ('Deja Vecu' - Austral 2025) and SF novella ('The Hidden God' - Asimov's).
It's a juried award and represents the best of Oz spec-fic. Congrats to all the nominees: aurealisawards.org/2026/02/01/2...
Author looking real fine (despite the messy hair) holding copy of magazine - cover art of a guy in a black suit, tubes coming out of it, surrounded by purple aura (also looks fine).
Author copy mail is the best type of mail. Grimdark Magazine #45 turned up today. Their first physical edition genuinely looks excellent (and love the cover art for my short story). @grimdarkmagazine.bsky.social
I've trunked one since I was first published.
Thanks mate.
