We at the @postguild.bsky.social are raising money for the hundreds of journalists the Post just laid off. This goes to the people who are hurting, not the Post. Or if you'd rather, go subscribe to an independent journalist. Support is hugely appreciated.

Proud to work where I work.

We're breaking down age verification mandates: how they harm civil liberties and how EFF is pushing back. Join our discussion and even ask questions during our Q&A! eff.org/livestream-age
I admit I'm finding it difficult to get things done while a good 30% of my brain is occupied with worry about my hometown taking its latest turn at the top of the "possible site of the start of the next civil war" wheel. My love to the Twin Cities, always.
Happy Publication day to the Church Committee Report!
Published for the first time in an abridged format and by a major press for it's depressingly relevant 50th anniversary.

I don't care if you think I'm AI. I will not stop using em-dashes.
Come be my boss! EFF is looking for a new executive director, as the incomparable Cindy Cohn moves on to her next chapter. If you have any questions about EFF, I'm happy to chat with you. But here's a bit about what we're looking for: www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
I am, ever so briefly, back in the consumer tip-writing game for EFF's Opt Out October. (A project led by the fantastic Thorin Klosowski.) Check out this post, which updates regularly this month with small things you can do to reassert control of your privacy. www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...
"As for the algorithm, if the concern had been that TikTok could be a conduit for Chinese government propaganda—a concern the Supreme Court declined to even consider —people can now be concerned that TikTok could be a conduit for U.S. government propaganda."

Truly, truly, amazing news
"Don't mock or you'll be deported" is the mark of a weak, decadent nation, a petty and insecure failure unworthy of respect.
We'll kick things off at 12 PM Pacific. (Do your own localization time math; I'm terrible at it.) Join us!

If you're not even a bit skeptical about this, I respectfully suggest you're not paying attention. www.cms.gov/newsroom/pre...
The tech industry only ever has two positions on any proposed tech regulation:
(1) Don’t regulate us. It’s too early. Our tech is still developing.
(2) Don’t regulate us. It’s too late. Our tech is everywhere.
I am very skeptical about what those pages will look like, but grateful to those who made enough of a stink about it to bring something back. #goforbroke
Update: per spox, “The Army is tirelessly working through content on that site and articles related to the 442nd Infantry Regiment and Nisei Soldiers will be republished to better align with current guidance." www.12newsnow.com/article/news...
My grandfather was the one who taught me to love this country, and to believe that working to fix a country that is not perfect is one of the greatest possible acts of patriotism and love a person can do.
He would be heartbroken about this.
I should say shame on the people who've done this. But what's in my heart is: fuck you. This isn't correcting whatever bullshit definition you have of DEI, this is erasing history.
As a high school senior, my grandfather saw his hometown bombed and then signed up to join the Army. He was a 442nd RCT medic in France, Italy and Germany, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star: digitallibrary.usc.edu/asset-manage...
There are many indignities, big and small. But it was the honor of my grandfather's life to serve in the 442nd RCT (and also for my relatives in the 100th and the MIS) and there is nothing, NOTHING, to gain from erasing their contributions to this country. jacl.salsalabs.org/jacl-calls-f...
