The chalice dungeons to me were what really set Bloodborne apart. I'd run random chalice dungeons over and over, not just for blood gems, but for the vibes. Ripping out someone's innards isn't glorified the same way it would be in DOOM, and after doing it on your 1000th parry animation it fully loses its impact. And even the most effective body horror stuff in the game to me isn't especially gory

It's exactly that. Despite how prevalent the gore is it's almost treated as background noise save for a few moments? It's a piece of the horror soup, but the atmosphere, tension, and monster design (both visual and audio) are the bigger parts to that I think

Like I don't think "Don't worry guys, we made it gory! 😏" is helping the worries I'd have regarding the adaptation missing the point
