The American refugee system, which Trump is dismantling, was put into place in response to America’s shameful failure to provide refuge to Jews persecuted by Hitler

I spent the day using my hands to create tangible, useful items.

My circle of control and influence are very small. I'm glad I decided not to follow the news today.

i love the story about Elon lying about being good at a video game because it’s not the worst thing he’s done by a mile but it is maybe the most fundamentally pathetic

I haven’t been in this much pain in a while.

0/10, do not recommend

It’s hovering on the “I I keep myself wound up, adrenaline fueled, and engaged in a million things at once, it’s a hum I can push to the background.”

As opposed to “someone is screaming directly into my ear and I can’t think.”

I’m trying to see if I can encourage the committee I lead to include it in our congregation’s siddur.

I’m not sure how many other people will be onboard for it, but I just did a presentation about the rhythm of the traditional modern KabShab, and I think a lot more are now on board with trad stuff

As a response to the far too numerous recent references On Here to "moneylenders in the Temple" (usually meaning Trump), here's a thread about why that phrasing is not merely incorrect, but a carryover from medieval Christian antisemitism & actively harmful to Jews today. 1/

Just read the response from Costco to shareholders requesting it back down from DEI. It was glorious. It begins "Our Board has considered this proposal and believes … an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary." and gets better. A happy investor #diversityandinclusion

Last night I was wondering at how vTNS had virtually eliminated my erythromelalgia flares and thinking I could talk to my pain doc about reducing some of my meds.

This morning I woke up because of full body, aching nerve pain.

*sigh*

It's interesting how all the people who complain about how disabilities or illnesses have become identities seem fine with people identifying as well, healthy, or normal. I think if anything there is a much larger identity politics of this latter sort.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Rabbi: Some say that it was a family leave. Others say it was due to the birth of a child, as it is said - "she shall not touch any consecrated thing, etc."

I recently ragequit a Discord server when no one questioned someone who said “the Irish aren’t antisemitic, we’re just anti-oppression.”

I’m still stewing about it.

We need more people to be comfortable saying that preventing a category of people from existing is, at best, eugenics.

The thought: “I’ll just do a quick presentation to the rest of the siddur revision committee about why Kabbalat Shabbat is the way it is before we start on this last section of our siddur”

The reality: Three PowerPoint presentations with 20 slides each

Unless they’re really short, I’m limiting myself to reading one new manifesto a week. I’m behind on my reading as it is.

Starting a moderation list for people who spread antisemitic lies about the Talmud. Back in my day we just used measuring cubits

What's an opinion you have that would make a bunch of people angry?

Write it down in a notebook called, "Why would I want to make a bunch of people angry right now?" and then close that notebook and have some tea.

My latkes bring all the goys to the yard

Damn right, I'll blow a shofar

If you say "Bah, humbug" to Christmas, you may be visited by three ghosts with very important lessons to teach.

If you say "Bah, humbug" to Hanukkah, Judah Maccabee is gonna come teach you a lesson personally.

Post-Polio Syndrome: What It Is, Symptoms & Treatment Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a condition that causes gradual muscle weakness and atrophy that can affect people who’ve had polio several years after the initial infection.

(Turns out PPS is specifically for symptoms that show up 10+ years later and involves progressive muscle weakness.)

And why don’t we know wtf is up with PPS? Because by the time it showed up we had a vaccine and thought it was a disease of the past.

This friend actually lived an active, able-bodied life until his 40s, when he suddenly became progressively more disabled.

I was researching it and the more mild someone’s PPS is initially, the worse the rebound is in middle age.

AND THEY DON’T KNOW WHY!!!

I know someone who died *this year* because his heart gave out after being weakened by polio when he was 5-yrs-old.

He spend the year prior to his death traveling to multiple states trying to find a doctor who knew how to treat the symptoms of Post-Polio Syndrome.

Wondering if anyone cheering on the upcoming admin was alive when the polio crisis happened in the early 1950s and when the vaccine first came out. I was barely old enough to take in the experience, but the image of my cousin in an iron lung is eternally burned into my memory.
