I'm not sure what clicked for me this year (maybe my ADHD has settled down a little with age, a lot of is probably a very supportive partner who I love to settle down each night with to read in bed), but I never imagined I'd be able to finish one book let alone this many in such a short time
1. Babel, R.F. Kuang 2. Piranesi, Susana Clarke 3. Brat, Gabriel Smith 4. Withered Hill, David Barnett 5. The Player of Games, Iain M. Banks 6. Consider Phlebas, Iain M. Banks 7. Circe, Madeline Miller 8. The Memory Police, Yoko Ogawa 9. Gateway, Frederik Pohl 10. The Great When, Alan Moore
One thing I never thought I'd be able to say is I'm now an active book reader. Since I started a few months ago I've powered through ten novels in a way I would have thought impossible once before. Here's everything I've read this year ordered by how much I enjoyed them (top is best)
It's been a real pleasure writing for the site and I want to give loads of thanks to @zupkeep.bsky.social and @indigogentleman.bsky.social for having me on there and for putting up with my think pieces and britishisms. Hopefully I can return with some spot articles soon!
Bit of a good news bad news situation here!
good news: I've got a new deck tech up on EDHREC for the upcoming Sygg commander from Lorwyn
bad news: I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from writing on EDHREC now that I'm a bit more gainfully employed and have less free time!
Think we'd be a fair commute from each other but if you ever fancy an online draft hit me up
In the haze of all the mess that is modern Magic I have been escaping into the game's most freeing and unifying format and in this article I urge you to do the same!

This week I take a look at a ruling that's been through many changes over Magic's history and brought into contention recently after some theory crafting by @saffronolive.bsky.social
So the question is, in 2025, do we still need a legend rule?
Or, if we're being cheeky

It's time to talk eggs on @edhrec.com
Does this goofy archetype most commonly seen in other, 60 card formats deserve a place in Commander?
Eggs eggs eggs, all I want is eggs!

I am a big Universes Beyond hater on the best of days but tried to be very level headed as I explain a problem I've noticed might be having an effect on Magic design now that we're getting half the year filled with UB sets
Having a lot of fun with this timeline culler infinite combo deck but if people don't start conceding earlier I'm gonna develop carpal tunnel

Had a really interesting task I set myself this week of trying to pick apart two very similar commanders who offer some incredibly big differences from each other when you start to pull them apart. I think it makes for an interesting read, check it out!
Only about a day left now to play our #GMTKJam2025 game before voting closes! We've had a lot of positive feedback so far so be sure to give it a go and give us a review <3
Followed you all just because of this, such an incredible entry!
On the weekend Maddie and I took part in #GMTKJam2025 and we managed to get a pretty nice vertical slice out in time (even though we missed day one 👀)

make sure to give it a rating if you play!
I'm back on EDHREC, and this time ranking removal spells! We're looking at mono white, and with one of the best removal suites in the game, it's a tough choice!
I'm getting theoretical in this week's edition of The Monolith. Is colorless a color?
That sucks dude I'm so sorry to hear that. Sure you'll move on to bigger and brighter things
This week for EDHREC I'm taking a look at some of Magic: The Gathering's neighbours for how they handle the situation when certain cards become overplayed.
If we were to retire the most played commanders in the format, what would happen to EDH?
Sometimes you gotta fling to win babyyyy and this new article from yours truly will tell you how to do it
Ever wanted to try Pauper EDH? Are you a fan of Final Fantasy or Equipment decks?
If you answered yes to any of the above boy do I have a list for you!
Turning up to the LGS with all my new accessories
This week I started my brand new role as the Community & Content Manager at Midow Studios - a startup from Malta making a currently unannounced but very cool VR game. Watch this space for more info!
Which Netrunner lists should me and Maddie print and play against each other as new players with lots of TCG experience
I played this with my family over Christmas and had a great time!
3-4 in the end, one point worse than Nationals but I think this deck is way stronger. Genuinely miserable luck today, so I'm keen to try again. And soon!
