It really sucks, yeah.
I use DuckDuckGo, as people suggested, although its filter can range from 99% to 50% effectiveness depending on the search (good lord, ancient armour refs are impossible to find unless you go through museum websites).

there was a brief period where she'd meow only at 8 am if I missed the window (saved me from sleeping through some work shifts), but then I had a few sleepless nights when I fed her earlier, and I guess that messed up the clock
