Pulitzer-worthy reporting here from Minnesota immigrant news @sahanjournal.bsky.social.

~53,000 military personnel died in combat in WW1. ~45,000 other soldiers died from the flu. #PeteHegseth may be ignorant of history, careless about the lives of those in uniform, but the army remembers. www.army.mil/article/2104...
These two grafs are from 'The Great Influenza,' a book about the unfathomably deadly epidemic that many of us read in the spring of 2020.
A recurrent theme of the book is how rapidly, and lethally, the disease spread among soldiers readying for or serving in World War I
Kevin Warsh just lost me. He argues he's going to be an independent Fed Chair, but refuses to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election. If you can't state simple facts when you're in the political spotlight, you aren't independent. You're a coward.
Seems to me like Trump is desperately begging Iran to sign a replica of the Obama JCPOA he tore up. All for the low low price of thousands dead, global instability, high energy prices, and a toll on ships through the once-free strait of Hormuz.
CNN put together a montage of Trump saying as far back as March 9 that his war against Iran "is going to be finished pretty quickly," then him saying that same thing over and over for the past six weeks
It’s a mark of how completely normalised the corruption & depravity have become that we barely bat an eyelid at the thought of two *property developers*, one Trump’s nepo baby son-in-law, being sent to represent the USA in peace negotiations with Iran. Sometimes it all hits you afresh.
What I have seen of Iran's presence at the negotiations has been very much like what they presented at the JCPOA negotiations - well-prepared, knowledgeable people with substantive proposals. Unlike the American clown show.
Amanda Ungaro was 16 when she was flown to the US on an Epstein plane. She later became close to the Trumps
On Apr. 8, she went on X to threaten legal action vs Melania “and your pedophile husband”
On Apr. 9, Melania made that odd public statement about Epstein

This is great, and a good reminder of the attack of this administration on mRNA technology and science. What is happening to science funding now is appalling.

Joseph Schwartz’s case is the latest in a string of health care fraud pardons by Trump.
The president also granted clemency to nursing home magnate Philip Esformes, convicted of a $1.3B scheme, and Judith Negron, convicted in a $200M fraud case.
JUST IN: Two days after saying the U.S. would NOT renew sanctions waivers on Russian or Iranian oil, Bessent’s Treasury quietly extended a license allowing Russian oil transactions for another month.
The defense secretary is derisively comparing the media to a maligned group of rabbinic Jews, the FBI director is denying reports of drunkenness on the job, the vice president is in a two-front theological war with the pope and Erika Kirk, Donald Trump is still president, and gas is $4. Happy Friday
Barely more than a decade ago, Florida proudly and with a bipartisan vote passed in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants who had been brought here as children and grew up in Florida. DeSantis’ Lieutenant Governor was actually a champion of the bill.
Things changed fast.
my unpopular opinion is that we're better off with Kash running the FBI and we should hope he keeps his job as long as Trump does
And Arizona just posted new data for March: since H.R. 1 passed in July, more than half of the Arizonans receiving SNAP have lost food assistance.
Not because the economy improved. Not because they didn't qualify. Because of how the state is responding to these federal cuts.
Congrats on “opening” a strait that was open six weeks ago, and all it cost was at least 13 dead service members, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, our loss in global standing, and the Iranian regime’s increase in power. Phenomenal work.
Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent for the Wall Street Journal:
The president cannot reach a financial settlement with an executive branch agency! This is cartoonishly corrupt! Just backing the gold-plated moving van up to the IRS and loading up cash.
In Maine, ICE brazenly called their operation “catch of the day.” The banal inhumanity of it all is overwhelming. The deaths, the injuries, the conditions in detention, the brazen disregard for people’s rights, including American citizens. And it’s still happening.

🚨YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP: IRS data show 164 taxpayers with an average unreported foreign account balance of $1.3 billion were identified for examination - but only 12 were audited.
The agency didn't do more audits even after they discovered $39 million of taxes owed among the 12.

Despicable fucking government.
She was granted withholding of removal from India *decades* ago, and had been living and working legally (including for the U.S. government!) ever since.
But with third country removals now a real option, TSA shared her data with ICE and they arrested her at the airport on her way to a job.
