It's nice and fun. Never underestimate the power of a single-use, disconnected, dedicated writing deck! There's something psychological about that. The keyboard is not amazing but I got used to it and found that typing at a slightly slower speed is pretty good for drafting. Super light and portable.

Well, this is my favourite review of CRAWLSPACE ever.

"It’s like watching a master carpenter who usually builds ornate cathedrals decide to construct a one-room cabin, then meticulously seal all the windows shut."

Heehee, I love that.

CRAWLSPACE is out in the US now and will hit the UK in May!

Crawlspace By Adam Christopher Review: SF Horror That Delivers Mechanical Dread - The Ginger Nuts Of Horror Review Website Crawlspace by Adam Christopher Review explores the psychological space horror and cosmic dread in this claustrophobic SF thriller.

Crawlspace by Adam Christopher is the space horror novel for people who think the scariest thing about deep space is realising your employer sent you there on purpose. A claustrophobic, slow-burn descent into cosmic dread. My full review is up now:

Scrivener for drafting - I like the ease of moving stuff & the word count calc is helpful for deadlines. Then into Word for the rewrite/edits. Mostly work on an M4 Macbook Air (as desktop with Rainy 75 mech keyboard). Portable is a Pomera 250, a Japanese travelling salaryman's tiny word processor!

An incredible photo, but what suprises me the most is the realisation that Jon is only 36 in this photo, and Jean is 21! Holy crackers.

Repo Man A quintessential cult film of the 1980s, Alex Cox’s singular sci-fi comedy stars the always captivating Harry Dean Stanton as a weathered repo man in a desolate Los Angeles, and Emilio Estevez as the ...

Wow, that brings back memories. The Criterion Collection did a 4K release a couple of years ago which is apparently excellent. www.criterion.com/films/28051-...

Hmm, 20s and 30s mostly?

Oh yeah I’m not suggesting that. But I wonder if bluesky will just become a place for Certified Old People like Facebook.

On average, yes.

But doesn’t see it when you post it mean your audience has to be online at the exact same time to see it? As such, it depends very heavily on reposts and quotes. Which is not a bad thing, as it means people are talking about it.

Instagram has THE ABSOLUTE WORST algorithm, where your feed can be 50% posts from two weeks ago and 50% adverts or posts from celebrities you have no interest in. But maybe the resurfacing of old content helps keep book posts alive, for example? I dunno!

There is another discussion to be had about algorithms. We agree they are bad, that no system should decide what we see or DON’T see. But without an algorithm pushing stuff back up into feeds, it can feel like you post something on Bluesky and it vanishes into the void. Not sure what the answer is.

Yes, THE worst. The absolute worst.
And yet people love it?

That is not to say there is no value here (far from it) and bluesky IS home to some very important users, spreading very important info that is actually hard to get elsewhere now.

But… I still think about it sometimes. We are not as big as we think we are.

And recently I was thinking about bluesky, how it feels like the old days of Twitter, when Twitter was good (and sometimes it was even GREAT), except… nobody uses Bluesky. Brands and celebs have mostly stayed away. Even lots of big publishers aren’t here. Feels like the site has stalled, maybe?

Okay heads-up, interesting fact I took away from Fiction Fest yesterday:

Nobody uses Bluesky. All tags and socials both from attendees and authors were Instagram, and TikTok (and actually it was 95% Insta).

The fest WAS heavy on romantasy, so maybe that skewed it. But it was fascinating.
