This Data Center Is Getting a $77 Million Tax Break to Create One Job No other project in the country has gotten such a large subsidy to create so few jobs, according to watchdogs.

A New Jersey data center will reportedly receive $77 million in tax breaks — while only creating one permanent job.

One job, in exchange for higher utility bills, noise pollution, and potential groundwater pollution.

Is it any wonder communities are organizing to stop data centers?

Making a pledge and then breaking it is not merely 'changing your mind'. The latter is fine, while the former reveals a character flaw: you're untrustworthy. Still, breaking a pledge need not be a lie if the pledge was at least sincerely made at the time. But I think it pretty clear it was not.

Philosophy vs Science: Just What Can You Establish From The Comfort of Your Armchair? Just like math puzzles, if philosophical puzzles can be solved at all, then they can be solved in the head.

'If you want to know how the reality is, you'll need to *observe* it. But then armchair reflection can amount to nothing more than pointless navel-gazing. Which makes armchair philosophy a grand waste of time.' True? www.templeton.org/news/philoso...

There have many grotesque mass murders over the last few centuries, each unique in its own disgusting way. To insist that only one is unique is wrong, and quite possibly racist.

Is the Private Self an Illusion? Are minds private worlds? We often think so, but this picture may be an illusion.

Illusionism is currently becoming a bit more popular in philosophy of mind (cf @keithfrankish.com) Here I explain the Wittgensteinian variety of illusionism. Yes, consciousness exists, but it's not the necessarily private inner world you may imagine it is. www.templeton.org/news/is-the-...

It's now mandatory for the Telegraph's journalists to support Israel.

Currently, people who fear publicly expressing opinions beyond the margins of what the status quo deems 'sensible' wouldn't dream of saying Starmer, Lammy, and Cooper should be prosecuted and imprisoned. Let's normalise the thought by repeating it, so that even the sensibles might dare say it

If your reaction to the thought Starmer, Cooper, & Lammy should be imprisoned is 'That's ridiculous' (it will be reaction of many) ask yourself *why* it's ridiculous. Often what seems 'ridiculous' to us seems so not for good reasons but as a result of prevailing zeitgeist.
