One of the things we struggled with in survey was how folks get paid in Actual Play.
One of the things I’m very careful about is that many answers in our survey could mean a significant amount of money or only token pay (or even hypothetical)
Some parts however are VERY clear.

The Public Scholar publishes one week from today. Please consider pre-ordering and/or asking your library to order. Authors really need your pre-orders to make a book go.
I think it's a useful book! More importantly, so do real scholars and writers!

BLACK STUDIES ON 135TH STREET is out today! My contribution, “Following Schomburg’s Example,” is about amplifying decency.
U.S. culture doesn’t require white people to be decent, so if you want more decency in the world, you must amplify & support it when you see it! True 100 years ago. True now.
Declarations of conflict of interest are for lesser bloggers. Here's my interview with @mytholder.bsky.social about the the process behind the currently crowdfunding DIE RPG: The Metadungeon. oldmenrunningtheworld.com/gareth-hanra...
I don’t think we quite appreciate how consequential Kotaku’s revitalization under new ownership, after being dragged to the absolute brink by Great Hill, is for the industry. It proves what many of us knew in our hearts; bad management is the beating heart of digital media’s woes.
Look @erikaishii.bsky.social if @emnk.bsky.social don’t get a book cover out of this we’re not doing our job right.
This Thursday!
Tickets are still available!
An interesting question (and one I think likely has a depressing answer)
I’m from Shreveport. I wrote about the tragic murders of these kiddos.

The Hampshire model is irreconcilable with the preferred future of fund managers, EdTech entrepreneurs, neoliberal administrators, & reactionary reformers, in which HigherEd is a giant surveillance & indoctrination network you submit to in order to earn the right to live into adulthood.
As you all know myself and 33 others were fired from Rockstar Games in what we believe was a ruthless and illegal act of Union Busting. We're fighting this tooth and nail. If you are able, please consider donating to our fighting fund so we can hold them to account!! 🌱✊

Sophie is now the Assistant Director of @skeuomorphpress.org as she works on her MSLIS at the iSchool—she’s a brilliant book historian & skilled printer to boot!

Bright teal-y blue background with black and white text that reads: Support Hampshire College Staff and Faculty! DONATE TO OUR EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND Hampshire College is closing, and hundreds of staff and faculty are facing sudden job loss.
As you know, Hampshire College is closing, and hundreds of our wonderful staff & faculty colleagues are facing sudden job loss without severance.
Hampshire staff & faculty have launched an Emergency Relief Fund—if you’re able, please donate or share!

Dickens: there once was an unfortunate orphan-
Gaskell: who died of consumption
Dickens: not sure if readers would like that version of the story
Gaskell: good.
Absolutely — I’m also thinking a lot about Tricia Hersey & her specific call for rest (given the unique nature of demands for Black women’s labor) & how to articulate all our inherent dignity & worth outside what we can give (because God willing we all have seasons where we can’t)
I think what strikes me about looking at the answers in aggregate is that I can tell from vibe/structure where on the spectrum of extrinisic/intrinsic motivation folks’ intention is.
It’s something I puzzle over!
I really appreciate @elizabethwithaz.bsky.social's reflections on how she explored the social impacts of technology with her students by introducing them to the people - the ghost workers - whose labor makes “AI” systems possible.

Today I’m pulling data from the survey to fill in all the places that say SURVEY DATA HERE.
Sometimes even I remain surprised by what we found out.
It’s a course that is Intro to Literary Studies. Students aren’t required to make games (though they all are this time), but to create a piece of some kind of critical making with an introduction that ties their work to the ideas of the course (in effect, close reading their own work).
@vidityavoleti.bsky.social A LAND ONCE MAGIC!
Lots of journaling games and GMless games
Last day of games in my* classroom until 2027: games to help my students refine their proposed projects

Just finished the playtest draft of a new Desperation deck whose developmental title is BIG DEAD ALIEN SPACESHIP because it is about exploring a big dead alien spaceship. I think this is one of those GURPS situations where the place-holder title just asserts itself into inevitability.

I think this captures the despair of many TX faculty, who are seeing years of their work lives discarded for . . . . what exactly?
