🧵Thanks again to @ettemedia.bsky.social and @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social for this investigation into the propaganda executed by Murdoch’s elite platform as part of its work drumming national conservatism into our power circles. Chief faking of “enemy” status is Muslims (and “woke” allies).

It’s a great moment to remember that in the leadup to this popular uprising, the first major gut-punch was delivered by Budapest Pride. Poetic justice. 🇭🇺🏳️🌈
Congrats Hungary, you really booed da pest.
I'll show myself out.
I wrote and posted this to Instagram a couple of days ago and it became my most-read poem ever. I’m honored I get to feel big feelings alongside you all. I’m posting it here too and want to use this space more consistently. Hello friends ❤️
Just having a really brief look at the country charts it seems more likely that the rate drops in Europe than LMICs, where it seems to increase in many cases. So I do still wonder about healthcare but your point on measurement could make sense too.

Could be a positive news story, but I have questions @hannahritchie.bsky.social. Is this for suicides that result in death, or for attempted suicides? Since there is massive discrepancy between countries, could it say more about healthcare, i.e. if fewer people who attempt suicide die from it?
Politico polling of six EU countries shows 36.5% on average now see the US as a threat vs 31% for China
Most wary of China: France, Belgium and Poland.
Most wary of the US: Spain, Italy, Belgium
As a highly photosensitive person I'm grateful for the blue light filters that I pretty much constantly use to reduce contrast and therefore headaches. But the purpose is obviously misstated, tech is not looking out for your wellbeing.
I'm at the Epstein Files, I'm at the Hormuz Strait, I'm at the combination Epstein Files and Hormuz Strait
Same vibe as helping people write LinkedIn posts that are even worse than they already were
So in summary:
- reversion to something like Obama’s nuclear deal
- hardline Iranian leadership remains in place
- Iran gets to charge ships passing the Strait
- US has massively depleted its arms stockpiles
That’s what’s been achieved here, right?
And thousands of civilians were killed in the process.
The idea of the world's most powerful people sitting on the toilet with their phone and making credible threats of genocide with a literal countdown while their massive network of collaborators either looks away or says "yeah makes sense"...truly unbelievable
Even if he doesn’t drop a single bomb, the threat itself is violence.
Iranians are walking around terrified today. It’s emotional warfare. I can’t imagine many things more cruel than giving someone a countdown clock to their death.
🌏 Do #climate commitments reduce #poverty?
📊 Szedlacsek, Blondeel & Pattberg find weak links between #NDCs and #SDG1 across 49 Sub-Saharan African countries. Poverty Engagement Score suggests low potential for poverty reduction. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Sorry to hear that! Relative to academia there are many more, and much more stable, opportunities. I'm lucky to know many people in tech who have managed to move countries multiple times and easily secure employment or continue to work remotely. But there's no perfect job security 🤷♀️
Just your average day in this completely dysfunctional timeline when one world leader tells another to STFU www.bbc.com/news/article...
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
There is also a large sample of academics partnered with software developers, who can basically get a job anywhere and have decent job security. As a bonus, either their work is so niche that it's fine yours is too, or you code and can talk about (and get help on) code! Can highly recommend.

So-called Australia has always been like this but man has it gotten worse in the past few years
I'm happy to announce this new paper — we compile evidence on the extraordinary harms caused by IMF and World Bank structural adjustment programmes in the global South since the 1980s.

Screenshot of news article which reads, “Girl footballers defend their right to have short hair after match is stopped when opponents accuse some of them of being boys.” Photos of footballers with short hair.
Sexist and transphobic abuse is escalating. This is what happens when you create a political culture obsessed with policing people’s sex.
Truly one of my favourite corners of the internet, thanks @terriblemapshq.bsky.social
Hi, I have diagnosed c-PTSD and this is true and if you suck at tetris, any bright coloured fast game requiring rapid eye movement and decision making will do! it also helps if you witness something triggering and are trying to stave off an episode
