I know it's a tough job market out there, but I realize not a lot of people who work in AA\AAA know about WorkWithIndies- but it's probably one of the best places to find off-the-beaten-path listings that you might not come across on LinkedIn.

An excellent write-up on this year's Indie Game Fest. Definitely watch the panel with Jake Solomon and @chrisbratt.bsky.social, and check out all of the amazing games at the show this year. Don't sleep on Baltimore, y'all. www.vice.com/en/article/i...

If there were no NDAs all around I could tell you about twenty projects in the last five years alone that followed these exact steps except for "and it all came together beautifully". If anything can be learned here, it's not that they found a writer on a writing site and a musician on a music site.
We're still looking for a hot-shot programmer to join us at Double Fine.
A while back, we shared a job post looking for someone who is great with optimizing code and tech. We've now adjusted that listing with more details about the position.
Check it out here! apply.workable.com/double-fine-...
Aggressively mid.
Our first day at GDC was exhausting. We did seven hour-long demos back to back in a room barely bigger than a closet. Nothing crashed, though we narrowly missed drowning our demo machine with a spilled water jug, and Grant almost caught the room on fire. The Transcend mixer afterwards was fun!
Midsummer Studios GDC badge.

This is so freaking cool!
That is such a clutch technique. The original Homeworld devs were brilliant.
The @thebaltimorebanner.com has written a great article about the history of the Baltimore County game development scene. There's even a bit about Midsummer! www.thebaltimorebanner.com/article/balt...
You shouldn't have to destroy placed actors when you load the level unless they're marked for destroy in the save data. Just serialize into them.
I spent the weekend wrestling with the #ziglang build system as a replacement for CMake in a C-based project, and was pleased with the result. Every build system makes big promises, and this is the first that hasn't completely broken my heart.
Try C with Raylib. Making a few small games this way is a great foundation.
I've been learning #ziglang in my spare time by writing a C compiler with it. More than anything, it's showing me what my habits are, and the value of trying a new thing. The language is pretty great, too.
Gardens is looking for a Technical Director to help us shape our flagship game. #gamedev Come work with me and our awesome team! gardens.dev/careers?ashb...
I left Firaxis a year ago to try something new. Today, with my co-founders Jake Solomon and Nelsie Birch, I'm proud to introduce Midsummer Studios, an independent game development studio in Hunt Valley, Maryland. www.midsummerstudios.com
Both excellent books. Every game designer should read "Thinking in Systems"
Working on a card table has its charm, but it's time for an upgrade. White oak with breadboard ends. Made with mostly hand tools.

Construction has started on our new studio space! Fun fact: this used to be the bottom floor of the old Firaxis studio before they moved down the street. I started my career in these halls, and it's pretty wild to be back.
In my career as a game developer, I've never unboxed my own work computer. Or set one up for that matter. I'm sure the novelty of being this DIY will wear off, but it's fun!
I ran into a bunch of former Firaxis colleagues at lunch yesterday, and was reminded how lonely this new indie studio startup-goblin lifestyle can be. I'm enjoying this phase of the process, but look forward to working with a team again.
Signal-to-noise is much better on this web site. I haven't read a single "10 best AI tools" listicle, and @catacalypto.bsky.social's BS is everywhere. Love it.
