Also, say a prayer for your local public librarians who will have to help a lot of frustrated, confused, and less tech literate people navigate this mess

What bothers me most about JK Rowling discourse is people view her as simply a problematic writer whose books contains bigotry who also tweets bigoted & transphobic things and not like a billionaire, more akin to Elon Musk, actively financing the far right in her goal of eradicating all trans people

Nothing in that Drawer an easy one to add.
As a student I read each line "nothing in THAT drawer..." Like I was searching.
Now I read it obsessive : nothinginthatdrawer 🫣

In addition to some others I've seen listed I hope I am not alone with:
I have eaten
the plums
which were in
the ice box

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

There's plenty to criticize about CS Lewis but his idea that Hell is just nimbys one upping each other's nimbyism really holds up against the test of time

Forcing* not fixing

I know that phone companies did this to us by removing headphone jacks from phones and fixing expensive air pods on people that can't afford or possibly keep track of them, but we have GOT to stop talking on speaker phone in public

A diagram of a chasm where a person sits on one end labelled "idea" and the other side has a prize and is labelled "results" - the chasm in between is labelled "being cool". Then underneath it is the same diagram but now the person is walking across the chasm as a bridge has formed which is labelled "being cringe" - being cringe is what you need to get what you want!

I had this pinned up in my filmmaking class for teens.

Sometime in the next couple weeks, Spokane will proactively ban ICE warehouses or other detention facilities through an innovative use of local zoning.

Putting you on a list of accounts that "too negative" is a wild move

In an staff-supervisor relationship, I've said the computer can't understand the nuances of our workplace culture or communication styles as well as they can. It's hard to guess what they really mean when it's filtered through a machine that doesn't know their mind or the fullness of their intent.

What is obvious to me is that a lot of people deeply care about their neighbors and this country.

They didn't think we would. We do.

This is the camp where both Karla, the ten year old taken from Spokane, and Liam, the five year old taken from Minneapolis are being held. Abuses and inhumane conditions have already been documented here: www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

Paging both the book bans people and the people trying to fight book bans by propping up parents' rights.

Since 2024 I've seen jobs on sites like Indeed listed as "librarian" but are just $20 p/hr AI training jobs. They all require a BA (which is both unnecessary for data training and also not an MLIS which is actually required for a librarian job).

I believe it (the first part of the sentence) is called a modifier clause.

I had not thought of it in this framing but this is SUCH a great point.

and the part that hurt the most was fighting to keep my job!

It's interesting to try to apply for nonprofit civic organizations and be told I don't have the experience when I've been working in the library for nearly 10 years. It's true it would be a little bit of a pivot but I gotta wonder if this is part of what's behind that idea.

It does! But if having folders is what's stopping you ... Tidal is still way better than Spotify!

If folder organization is important to you, you can put your entire Spotify over to Tidal for $5 and, again, they pay their artists way more per track
