Of course, it's all open to interpretation, and there is a lot of (I think) intentional ambiguity in this song in particular. It's one of the reasons that it's in my top 3 tracks of the album!

Yeah, it's definitely a hyperbolic phrase that has religious overtones to me, too. And the vocal effect on that part makes it sound different from the rest of the song (even a bit feminine?), which makes me wonder if that is intentional as "this is what that kind of fan might say about us."

Oh, agreed, the Agust D 'Life Goes On' really is another great example of this! I have a personal preference for the OT7 version but I really enjoy & respect that Yoongi followed his vision to release his own version and what it became during the tour performances

"those other lyrics become an echo I can hear in the song when I want to" I love this! I often feel that way too - like, I'm not going to sing 'wonder where the waves are taking you' instead, but it's there in the back of my mind to enhance the message/feeling toward the song

That doesn't mean it replaced a specific lyric, either, of course - that part is just me speculating, it could have developed in a very different way from what we have now

Some nuance could be lost in translation of course, but I was basing it off of "The initial wording was actually 'You make me weak,' because that’s what I wanted to tell the fans" from the interview, and him saying the phrase "you make me weak" in English on the video made it feel like a lyric
