I was going to say that they look like actual women (as opposed to hyper-sexualised children), BUT a lot of them ARE young, and as you pointed out, still "idealised" or conforming to the tastes of the time. If I was to start painting nothing but young women in similar poses it'd feel creepy.

I know exactly what you mean. They are kinda male gaze-y in the way a lot of paintings were, but they don't feel horny for the sake of it. There's a story, they are figures from myth... Equally, it might just be the way we perceive men now vs long dead ones?
