But making it formal can be important too. E.g. if it happened before that a supervisor was disappointed in a specific situation, or even worse frustrated and aggressive about it, then probably it's a good idea not only to have regular check-ins but also to have a written record of them.
I agree those are important aspects too. Here, I think having reminders or a certain regularity is quite important, because the "original plan" always changes and keep changing as you move forward, so having regular check-ins to discuss what everybody is expecting and by when it's good.

being available when needed, offering constructive criticism as well as motivation and recognition, being humane (do not request unreasonable achievements, or expect huge personal sacrifices, respect holidays, time to rest etc.), there's probably more but this are top three to me
Our final session focused again on methodologies 🧩 — with exciting applications from form-based approaches to assess chimpanzee gestures to facial action coding in rabbits 🐒🐇

Had a wonderful time in Madagascar for #IPS2025! Thanks to everybody who attended my talk, shared interesting insights and to the old and new friends that made it so memorable. Also thanks to the lemurs and beautiful landscapes 🐒🌴
Are you at IPS and really into gestures🤌?
Come listen to my presentation "A formed-based approach to chimpanzee gestures" on Monday at 14:00 in the Tokyo conference room.
Hope to see you there!
📢 Our new paper is out in @methodsinecoevol.bsky.social!
A step toward more comparable approaches in bioacoustics! We tested how different acoustic feature extraction and classification methods affect caller ID classification accuracy.

Congrats!! 👏
Split-image with the text “TO BEE or NOT TO BEE.” The left side shows a vibrant wildflower meadow with a bee on a daisy, symbolising biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. The right side shows a dry, barren landscape with dead trees and no visible wildlife, representing environmental degradation. An EU flag appears in the bottom right corner.
Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝
Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive.
Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.

Our (@maelmleroux.bsky.social et al.) paper out today in #RSOS: we tested the ability of bonobos to process 'non-adjacent dependencies'.
Surprisingly, unlike our prior work on chimps and marmosets, we found no evidence that they did so...

🚨New in @science.org🚨
With Simon Townsend (@nccrlanguage.bsky.social) and Martin Surbeck, we have investigated whether wild bonobos can combine calls in complex combinations, similar to how humans combine words into sentences 🧪

It's 🐵Giving Day for Apes🐵 and I would warmly suggest to consider donating to @Chimfunshi. They take extra care of the rescued chimps living there, and every euro helps to get them even healthier and happier lives.

@P_eMartin, @LauraSimoneLew and @HannaSchleihauf for this insightful event and the opportunity to present my annotation system for chimpanzee gestures!
Love the examples in those linguistics papers😂
Had a blast last week visiting @SimonWTownsend research group in Zurich and reviving the vibes of my MSc days. Back in Leipzig with fresh insights and motivation to move forward! 🚀✨
Unexpected work buddies at @UZH_en
I was happy to present the first bit of my PhD projecy at @EFP_2024! Amazing conference, with lots of interesting talks and productive coffee breaks. Also lots of fun! 🐵
The tears I cried leaving an amazing community of researchers, volunteers and workers who invest their time and energy for the well-being of the chimps and for a better world 🥲🌍🐵
I am so grateful for the time I got to spend in @Chimfunshi!
