Mamdani: When I ran for mayor, I said I was going to tax the rich
Well, today we're taxing the rich...

Many people are plagued by allergies to spring tree pollen. But let’s be sure to blame the right trees. Here is a story about tree pollination, a very interesting subject. This post is available to everyone.
this is how it’s done
Researchers in Finland found that the majority of respondents to a survey have a favorite tree. It’s not unusual, says arborist RJ Laverne, for that bond to feel like friendship. We form interspecies relationships with our pets. So why not plants?
This is a threatened genocide.
😒😒 just my union here to prop up a technology industry that threatens our labor power and demeans our knowledge as educators. great thanks.
Did not expect to come on here today and see my union leader schilling for AI 🤣🤮

how about a single day where we stop legislating trans ppl out of public life

the reason we keep getting reports showing ultra-low-quality standards for carbon offsets is because it is fundamentally a system that rewards volume of sales, not quality of service
A system of trading climate action for profit will always tends towards not working!!!

A collage of two photos of myself. On the left is a black and white photo of me arriving to the beach after a run with a peace sign. This is the last run I have been on which happened in 2020 6 years ago today — on the right is a photo of myself on a typical day recovering from minor exertion with an eye mask and oxygen concentrator on.
6 years ago today I went on my last run (pic left) — today I’m 36 and I’ve spent my entire 30’s with #LongCovid struggling to walk up and down the block, or work more than 1-2 hours a day.
Heres 4 things I never thought I’d lose at this age:
wow we are arriving at the exact situation every single person imagined within one second of seeing their first robot dog

I really hate nationalism. I really hate the ideology that makes someone look at an indisputably illegal war of aggression that's killed zero US service members and hundreds of other people and only say something like this
It's such an infurating thing to try to explain to liberals here, that we've always been "that guy" and this is just the same shit but more blatant that we've been doing for ages and that this country is not salvageable and no mainstream politics will stop this

The way to understand this, I think, is that everybody knows that when Trump or Vance says "illegals" he's not talking about legal status, but about social desirability, and so people think that that distinction goes both ways.
Naming someone is not doxxing. They aren’t undercover. They aren’t intelligence agents overseas. This is outrageous - we are supposed to be a free Republic and these people want an authoritarian police state. Lawsuits should be filed & ranking Dems in Congress should act.

Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.
Police have arrived. Arrests seem imminent. The crowd chants “let them pray” and “Minnesota nice means prosecute ICE”
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."
ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA A DAY OF TRUTH & FREEDOM
MINNESOTA: Friday is a statewide day of non-violent moral action and reflection. That means no work, no school, and no shopping — only community, conscience, and collective action.
Plus, there will be a peaceful march and rally in downtown Minneapolis: iceoutnowmn.com
We have ~15 separate radio dispatches, one for each neighborhood, and dozens more for the suburbs/Saint Paul. Each dispatch/monitoring channel contains somewhere between 500 and 2000 people. At any given time there are probably a dozen mobile patrols and 100 on-foot observers in each neighborhood.
"Homeland Security refused to release more information, unless the tribe 'entered into an immigration agreement with ICE.'"
I don't even know what to say at this point except fuck ICE and fuck the settler colonial government of the so-called united states

Anyway the single best check on your espoused prescriptions for social change is whether you yourself are doing what you say others need to do. It's extremely clarifying and usually very humbling.
What historians (and other scholars do) is create knowledge. We should use that phrase more and talk about what it means. I think we don't, and it's part of why AI enthusiasts are confused when we don't readily agree that our work can be replicated/replaced by their products.
