I used to want digital, internet-connected everything. Now I want:
- A pomodoro timer that actually looks like a tomato and has zero chips or digital displays.
- A wind up mechanical watch.
- A dryer without internet connection.
- No voice assistants in the house.

I put in a reverse osmosis water filter system under the sink today. Took about 90 minutes, which included collecting my tools, drilling a hole, and following the instructions.
I picked the iSpring RCC7AK. Working nicely so far and we can taste the difference in a side-by-side comparison.
For the weekly been dish project, I made Frijoles Charros and then turned the leftovers into Frijoles Puercos. #beansky cagrimmett.com/2026/04/19/f...
Following my post containing the scans of Cecil Heacox’s 1969 Charmed Circle of the Catskills articles, Ed Ostapczuk emailed that Heacox did a follow up in the May 1972 edition of Outdoor Life on Catskill Flytyers. Naturally, I had to track that one down, too. cagrimmett.com/2026/04/17/c...
One low-key long-term project I have is trying different variations of the Kingston Negroni to find the best combination of rum + bitter amaro + sweet vermouth. Tonight's version of OFTD + Aperol + Carpano Antico is the best so far, easily topping the 8 previous iterations.
I noticed that Outdoor Life republished the March 1969 Cecil Heacox Charmed Circle articles online today. I can't help but think my tracking the article down last month and sharing it widely prompted them to republish it. Who knows. www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/lege...

I walked and fished the section of the Pocantico River running through Rockefeller Preserve to document disturbances with Trout Unlimited’s RIVERS app as part of the Big Apple Brook Trout program. Here are my notes: cagrimmett.com/2026/04/16/w...
High temp recorded on the weather station today was 87.6F.
It was hot enough that we realized our car's AC needed recharging, so Charlie and I worked on that after dinner.
Charlie and I took a walk down at the pier tonight. I asked all the old fishermen, "Stripers here yet?"
They all said, "Not yet, 1-2 weeks."
Time to tie some big striper patterns.
Had a great afternoon yesterday taking my son out exploring Constitution Marsh after school. It is fun that he is at an age now where we can do this regularly!
After three weeks of walking through the woods at night looking at vernal pools with a flashlight, I finally found a spotted salamander! cagrimmett.com/2026/04/15/s...
Honestly.
Charlie and I found trout lilies, wood anemone, fiddleheads, and a common flicker feather today in the woods.
Bonus
Yard flowers blooming today.
We must protect the @archive.org on every front.
Knowledge is power & Internet Archive puts that power in the palm of your hand every day.
I still remember my first time trying out HTML at a school computer lab and the magical feeling of hitting Save and Refresh and seeing the webpage change. I wish I still had the old Elizabeth Castro book I used then.
Trying out some float bags on the Guideboat. These are actually inflatable dock bumpers.
Why is call spam getting so bad? I've received 21 spam calls in the last 24 hours. I am now silencing all unknown callers, which I was hesitant to do before, but this spam is just too much.
How long until we only leave our internet plugged in when we need to use it, and disconnect it the rest of the time? I've been slowly dismantling the Internet of Things devices we rely on, but as AI models like Mythos come out, it makes me want to disconnect most things most of the time.
Did you hear the story of the one man $1.8 billion business built by AI as portrayed in the @nytimes.com? Turns out basically every aspect of that story is bullshit and the story should be retracted.
A few thoughts on @dec.ny.gov's 2026 trout stocking in Westchester and Putnam counties: cagrimmett.com/2026/04/07/a... #flyfishing
Caught a nice little brook trout today on a dry fly, a CDC little black stone, size 16. This one is probably 2-3 years old given the faint, fading parr marks. #tenkara #flyfishing
Update on the forced rhubarb.
On a walk in the woods I came across some atypical daffodils. I think they might be called Double Daffodils?
