And as this article points out, it immediately follows the Australian 60 Minutes interview that started this thread in the first place. He got statusmogged into an OD, or in regular English, an interviewer with real confidence made him feel bad so he got fucked up on drugs and nearly died.
It may well be an outgrowth of loneliness, starting earlier in life, and having it be suggested that it become stratified and justified rather than addressed in any healthy way. Of course, if they don't learn how to get along, others are less likely to want to help them find a way to cope.
Sounds like you're doing your job, and yes, we pay attention to Clavicular because they are the exception to humanity, and he's burning out so thoroughly, he's not likely to be anyone's role model for long. If he ever was.
