It used to be that a family could pay for groceries and their power bill with some leftover with their TANF money.

Now, TANF doesn’t even come close to providing the same relief. In fact, TANF falls about $100+ short of covering the same amount of groceries and electricity as it did in 1998.

Who Pays for a Per-Employee Medicaid Fee? - New Jersey Policy Perspective The current proposal’s design could harm workers and miss the mark on sustainable funding.

🚨 New Analysis 🚨

A fee tied to individual employees’ health coverage will encourage employers to find loopholes and harm workers.

Revenue raisers should focus on ensuring that the ultra-wealthy and corporations pay for health care, while protecting Medicaid enrollees.

Public defenders handle majority of NJ criminal cases. How it works Meet the people behind the public defender system in New Jersey, and why it's not like what you see on TV or in movies.

Public defenders are a critical part of our justice system. And this article highlights just how important they are - but there is a catch, and you might have missed it. The Office of the Public Defender, which is amazing, only handles Superior Court Cases. (1/2)

Why NJ Advocates Say the New Immigrant Trust Laws Aren’t Enough – NJ Urban News New Jersey codifies immigrant protections under Gov. Mikie Sherrill, but advocates warn loopholes still leave residents at risk.

Recent protections for New Jersey's immigrant communities are a good first step, but don't go far enough to defend the state's residents.

"There’s more to do to protect the people of New Jersey,” said @marleinau.bsky.social.

The state can raise revenues by taxing wealthy corporations that profit off New Jerseyans.

"State governments are going to have to work harder to make sure that wealth ... is being pulled back in to pay for the services that make the state great," said @ptrchn1.bsky.social.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Abolish and prosecute ICE. They did a murder in broad daylight today. Imagine what they're doing in the closed facilities we're somehow not even allowed to see.

“NJPP calls for a full, independent investigation into Mayor Baraka’s arrest and the legal status of Delaney Hall’s operations. No facility should be allowed to operate without full transparency, oversight, and compliance with public safety and health standards. NJPP is profoundly alarmed over Mayor Ras Baraka’s arrest. This incident underscores longstanding concerns about the privatization of immigration enforcement and the dangerous lack of accountability that comes with it.

Yeah, it's not up to them to declare the investigations into their colossal fuckup and the wider lapses in national security are all over.

Don't let this fade away.

NYC launches congestion pricing, NJ vows to fight on | Video | NJ Spotlight News New York City has launched its congestion pricing system that charges an extra toll for those entering lower Manhattan.

Congestion pricing is active and it won't be long before communities reap the benefits.

"We are going to see cleaner air, a relief of traffic congestion, and therefore better commutes for the people who do have to drive into the city,” said Alex Ambrose.

Every Friday night we have a family movie night. And every family movie night, the children talk and say “right mommy?” throughout.

Tonight we watched The Grinch (2018).

Run time: 90 minutes
Total number of “Right mommy?”s during the movie: 27

NJ rents keep going up, more than elsewhere in US | NJ Spotlight News Advocates and policy analysts say state leaders need to do more to mitigate the cost of rent as well as homeownership.

Helping keep the state affordable must include a focus on reducing high rents.

“The kind of drag that puts on local economies, the kind of pressure that puts on families, especially those children, is substantial,” said NJPP's @ptrchn1.bsky.social.
