Still looking like we’ll have another opportunity for rain and more Sierra snow in the late weekend to early next week timeframe before high pressure reigns after to the end of the month. Stay tuned. 🙌🏻🙏🏻❄️☔️ 4/15/2026
This late in the season… any extra snow or rain is generally good news, but especially this year where the Sierra is concerned. So far April is off to a good start, but can it make up for what happened in March? Stay tuned. ❄️🌨️4/14/2026 @nbcbayarea #Sierra #BayArea #California #Tahoe #snow
Sierra snowpack 2026: A mostly warmer Winter brought plenty of precipitation but below average snow. Then record warm/dry March arrived for an early season melt out. April is so far making some SWE gains but note the starting point. Data via @UCB_CSSL 4/14/2026 @nbcbayarea
However the big picture is … still snow challenged (@UCB_CSSL plot) for a mid-April snowpack (median snow line = green, this year = black) Now, if we can manage some follow up storms, we could begin to make more progress… stay tuned
Winter rewind: When April across the Sierra literally looks more like February (Yosemite/Half Dome and Stateline/S. Lake Tahoe) w/ impressive 3 day totals. It is also the most April snow since 2022 according to @TahoeWeather. More opportunities may be lurking ahead...stay tuned. #CAwx 4/13/2026
April weather is apparently trying to make up for March with some impressive rain totals over the weekend. Could we see more not too far down the road? Here’s how things look to start the week … stay tuned 4/12/2026
12pm radar update: isolated thunderstorms with locally gusty wind and possible hail will continue into the afternoon. We should see decreasing thunder and shower chances later Monday morning. 4/12/2026 #CAwx
Impressive view on satellite/radar Saturday night… those are not your typical April showers. 4/11/2026 #CAwx
Sunday outlook: not quite done yet. More showers, including the chance of isolated thunderstorms (brief hail & gusty wind possible) Sunday but not expected to be as widespread or intense as our Saturday evening soaker. Look for decreasing shower chances Monday. 4/11/2026
Agreed… Although the Santa Cruz mountains, Peninsula and East Bay did so pretty well. Considering that fell in just one to two hours, those numbers are pretty impressive.

Green polygons are the marine warning areas including the inner bay for strong wind gusts and coastal waterspout potential. Note the bowing in the segments, good indicator of strong wind, mixing down to the surface. The cells are moving very quickly to the east northeast at close to 60 mph.

Thunderstorms underway around the Bay Area… could see a few severe isolated cells at times, especially inland. 4/10/2026 #CAwx
This is the set-up to the best Central Valley storm I have ever witnessed. Timelapse covers a few minutes, near sunset looking north from the 3rd story walkway directly outside my geosci lab room at MJC. I then recorded a 12min video that I have yet to process. 150+ lightning flashes in storm. #cawx
