I’ve been experimenting with the Channels app as an alternative to Plex for live TV and DVR. Installing the Channels DVR Server under Docker on Synology required more spelunking than it should have, so I’m putting what I did here for anyone else who wants to follow this path. #

Me: Walks away from the house, wearing my Airpods Pro
Siri (In my Airpods): Would you like me to run automation "last to leave home"?
Me: Yes
Siri: Sorry, I didn't understand that.

“Grandpap" is how I grew up addressing my maternal grandfather, William Stevenson, Sr. He would have been 100 years old today; he passed away on May 17, 2018 at the age of 92. I didn't write a post about him then. Now seems like the next best time to write one. #
The people of Iran aren’t free. Iran can now charge tolls. The nuclear material sits EXACTLY where it did, in the same amount, since June. The regime is still in place with a younger ayatollah. Iran still was launching missiles, now with more money to rebuild.

losing contact with the earth for 40 minutes sounds nice
I'll take the analyst assessment with a grain of salt, but RAM prices are certain to have interesting (bad) second-order effects aside from just more expensive computers. Hopefully my new one will last a while. #
I wondered, while watching the live coverage of Artemis II yesterday, why they were taking photos with Nikon D5s, which is an older, discontinued camera. This article answers that question. tl;dr: Known quantity; build quality; still class-leading low-light performance. #
This article thoughtfully articulates the current backlash against e-motos, the conflation with legal e-bikes, and the danger to the latter. We need to be able to embrace e-bikes as true micro-mobility vehicles while getting control of kids riding e-motos dangerously. #
Just about 10 minutes until the launch window opens, so now's the time to tune in to the live feed. #
Apple’s 50th has stoked nostalgia about the early days of personal computing, which made me want to take a moment to thank my mom and dad for recognizing and investing in my love of computing. #
Seen: Somehow this manages to be both nerdy in that only-in-San Francisco manner, and also thoroughly tasteless. #
I totally agree that custom players should be made to implement platform standards. The elephant in the room, of course, is: What does Apple do if Netflix calls their bluff and takes their app off of Apple TV? Does Apple need Netflix more than Netflix needs Apple? #
I was super disappointed to read about ads coming to Apple Maps. Ads are cancer for products that, once introduced, only get worse over time. I wish being an Apple One member would include an ad-free experience as a benefit. #
I just told my wife about the latest Netflix price increase and the Apple TV app thing, and she agreed to cancel! We're currently watching A Man on the Inside, and we agreed that we'll finish it off and then I get to make the cancellation call. #
As I mentioned in my last post, we've been watching A Man on the Inside. The first season was very good: touching and well crafted. The second season is not nearly as charming, and already feels like it's cruising for following a formula…. #
Honestly, between the ever-increasing monthly prices and their complete refusal to be a good citizen on Apple platforms, let alone actively making their apps worse, Netflix makes me want to cancel so badly. (Recently my wife got logged out, and her first thought was that I had canceled.) #
Flighty was already a great app, but their new Airport Intelligence features are very timely. I love the dashboards on their website, complete with a "TV Mode" for putting a dashboard up in an easy-to-read format on a TV. #
Xcode 26.4 is out. There's a long list of fixed issues and improvements, but my favorite fixes the issue with Codex I posted the workaround for earlier. #
The Punisher: One Last Kill is going to be released as a "Special Presentation" on May 12 on Disney+, right after the end of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again (which starts tonight). #
I hope this gets approval. Every season, I find ticks on me after mountain biking. After the first time, you learn to do a full body check after the ride. I wouldn't stop that check, but a vaccine sure would be a nice second layer of defense, and some peace of mind. #
A couple years after cutting the cord, I finally fixed our flaky over-the-air TV and now have a reliable, free(ish) source for our nightly Jeopardy! habit.
Hopefully this post can help anyone wanting to run their tuner on power-over-ethernet like I did. #
I'm not sure what prompted Ars to publish this, but it was fun to look back on this movie. While I never loved the movies—they were just a bit too weird—I did enjoy the TV show. #
Two years ago, I made a bet with a Tesla-stan friend that the Cybertruck would get canceled (or very materially redesigned) in three years. I've got my fingers crossed that it finds itself on the chopping block soon. Down 48% YoY! 🤞 #
According to Tim Cook, “Mac just had its best launch week ever for first-time Mac customers. We love seeing the enthusiasm!” It's hard to not read that as, "The MacBook Neo launch has been a huge success". As a fan of the Mac, I’m happy to hear that the Neo is finding such a positive welcome! #
As a Marine platoon leader in Vietnam, Mueller was shot and later returned to lead his platoon after his recovery. He received a Bronze Star for valor, a Purple Heart, 2 Navy/Marine Commendation medals, Republican of Vietnam Cross of Valor, and numerous other medals.
