Ok I feel seen ♥️
First day working at DEFRA through Public Digital. Most of it has been spent trying to remember how to use Windows so far :)
But all things must end, and new things must begin ☀️
My time here over 12 months has coincided with me exiting the startup I spent the last three years working my heart out on and my dad getting sicker and then dying last year
It's been a tough time
So I'm grateful to Sport England and my team for the chance to find some calm focus inside the storm
Leaving Sport England today to start something new in a couple of weeks
It has been a *trip*
Learned loads, made mistakes (obvs), but ultimately left the Movement Fund in a better place and created and honed a beautiful multidisciplinary team along the way
❤️❤️❤️

Weirdly I've made a later life change and have gone back to putting reverse-dates at the start of filenames to make them sort better. I don't think I've done this since my 20s - since then I flirted with no-sort filenames but mostly I've been numbering
Lots of meetings I guess
Amacht Anocht especially. Can't get enough of that beat

So just a huge thank you to everyone doing information architecture 🙏
And a little reminder for me to remember that Bluesky is a bit more like old Twitter in that sometimes posts get unexpected reach and I should be more careful how I frame things 🫣

So it was really heartening to hear a bunch of people pointing out that it's not dead, they're still doing it. I loved hearing all of this and am gonna quote those replies here in case they're heartening to others too ❤️❤️❤️
Just to be clear about me missing information architecture at the places I work...I'm not saying IA is dead, or no one does it any more! I'm more saying that (in the places I work) it used to be discussed as often as service design, interaction design, user research but recently it's less visible :(
Great to hear! I didn't mean to imply no one was doing IA any more at all - more that it's mostly disappeared from the context of the places that I work compared to 10 years ago and it's a crying shame - but I'm sorry if it sounded that way :(
That is definitely work that is needed. But I also think IA skills in framing what people might align around, or commit to, are often missing/undervalued. Often we are trying to align to weirdly constructed concepts, which makes it harder to align/commit etc
Did not expect this to be the day when I experienced an outpouring of love for IA ♥️
Basically, as always, it's the "agree something concrete between ourselves" that is the hard part!
Yes indeed! And lots of the hard is bound up in agreeing the list/lists of "things" in the first place. Naming gets a little easier after that (I think?)
Yeah this was my suspicion but I would be very happy to be wrong :)
I like that correction, thank you :)
And we love you for it 🙏🏼

((spoiler: none. but a man can dream))
(idly wondering how much work I'd get if I pitched myself as doing information architecture, rather than just doing it on the sly every day)
Also, bring back information architecture. It's the root of so many issues at all my workplaces. We miss you 💔
