Ha! Yes, that is a good question. I suppose this is how you would tell:
First Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm - Not a tornado
Severe Weather Awareness Week, Thursday at 1:45pm and 6:45pm - Not a tornado
Every other time - TORNADO!!!

40s and 50s later this week. A big melt is unfortunately inevitable.
I always forget this meme. Itβs helping me deal with Facebook comments this morning.
Itβs gonna end up being a double digit snow total officially.

4 inches, 6 inches, 10 inches is still a fuckton of snow in March to me. And also the storm clearly heard me telling everyone to prepare and went somewhere where people were less prepared. One thing we are not gonna do is blame Matt!
Also it's March and it's going to be in the 40s in a few days. It's goofy.
This is a long duration storm. Most of the snow falls tonight through Sunday morning. Wake up, be lazy, enjoy coffee and family time, then go shovel once.
Shovel again before dinner, and probably once more before work Monday.
Break up a foot (ish) of snow into chunks. Your back will be happier.

Two weeks left in the cookie season and my daughter is SO CLOSE to smashing her goal of 300 boxes sold. Message me if you'd like to order - we can deliver locally in Minneapolis and I could probably be convinced to drive to St. Paul/inner suburbs if necessary.
Yes, this is good.
In anticipation of the storm, the City of Minneapolis has opened more than 700 spaces of free off-street parking in two lots, and, starting Sunday morning, 3,500 spaces in Ramp A for $1. Learn more:

To give residents plenty of opportunity to move their vehicles, the City has declared a snow emergency to begin at 9 p.m. SUNDAY, March 15. www.minneapolismn.gov/news/2026/ma...
Big Blizzard Warning upgrade tonight through early MONDAY.
Messages are still the same:
β’ no long distance driving after 11pm Saturday through Sunday in the Twin Cities metro
β’ try to stay hunkered down all day Sunday

Blob over MN with 1 to 78 inches of snow possibly expected maybe
Wait, post-Halloween Blizzard, there was ANOTHER giant storm over Thanksgiving? 8 year old me apparently chose not to remember that. Crazy amounts of snow.
...POWERFUL WINTER STORM ON TRACK TO BRING EXTREME SNOW ACCUMULATIONS AND STRONG WINDS... ...A WINTRY MIX OF RAIN, FREEZING RAIN, AND SLEET LATE TONIGHT ACROSS SOUTHERN MINNESOTA... ...TRAVEL MAY BECOME IMPOSSIBLE LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY... .A major winter storm will move across the Upper Midwest starting late this afternoon and lasting through Sunday evening. The first concern is heavy snow with a broad area of 12 to 18 inches expected across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin. A narrow swath within the broader area may approach 2 feet in parts of far east central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin. Rates of 2 to 2.5 inches per hour are likely late tonight. A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet is now expected to work north into southern Minnesota tonight. A half inch of sleet and a tenth of an inch of ice are expected from New Ulm to Red Wing and south. The wintry mix will turn to all snow Sunday morning. The second concern is increasing winds on Sunday. Even though the snow will be tapering off gradually throughout Sunday, northwest winds will increase to 30 to 40 mph. Some gusts of 50 to 55 mph are possible. The combination of falling snow, blowing snow, and gusty winds will reduce visibility and create blizzard conditions late Sunday morning through Sunday evening across western and southern Minnesota. Travel is expected to become very difficult or impossible late tonight through Sunday evening. In addition, the amount of water in the snowpack will make it very heavy, leading to the potential for infrastructure damage and a health hazard for those shoveling. * WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 15 and 20 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Barron, Polk, Rusk, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, and St. Croix Counties. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 AM CDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

So what could possibly go wrong with a Friday the 13th snow forecast?

When this car was unveiled at the 1998 Detroit Auto Show, it caused all 2,000 attendees to spontaneously yawn. The resulting abrupt change in air pressure inside the building caused a partial collapse of the roof. Four people died.
