I guess that's part of the problem though, if we're prioritizing "meaningful" engagement then it doesn't serve as a public forum, only as a conduit to other places so people can make money
But most people enjoy social media when they feel like they're having a conversation. Yes there's lots of vitriol but there's also connection. If I have over 400 followers but my posts get zero interactions then something is deeply wrong with the platform.
I think that's the fundamental mistake of Musk's takeover of Twitter and the way other tech people wrongly view social media. In their minds, social media exists as a money maker which means posts need to create engagement so sell ads. Viral tweets and ragebait are good for their business model
I have 2.5x the followers on here but get significantly more engagement on Threads. The vibe on Threads is not my favorite but Bluesky just feels like a place for bigger accounts to share stuff. I don't get the sense that I can really participate in or create any sort of community.
