if you'll allow me my cringe millennial nostalgia for the day, Kadokawa uploaded a "20th anniversary" clip of the "God Knows" scene from Haruhi Suzumiya, and 20 years removed from it, I still think there is no anime scene quite like this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtt2...

Plush doll of the Witch Princess from Slay the Princess. A hand holding a frankly harmless-looking kitchen knife is pointing at her face as she wears a smug expression

And yet I still miss Journal With Witch
Starting more anime than I could possibly keep up with this season:
Dorohedoro
Akane Banashi
Witch Hat
Ganbare Nakamura Kun
Needy Girl Overdose
Lulutto Lilly
100 Scenes of Awajima
Liar Game
Daemons of the Shadow Realm
Kamiina Botan
Drops of God
Marriagetoxin
Great variety of stuff too
Marriagetoxin is absolutely bananas I love it. Regret not going to the premiere at Sakuracon, I bet the room was going nuts
GoHands is a studio staffed with tastemakers and visionaries who know exactly how to frame a shot and animate hair
Ame in her iconic Japanese scene girl outfit standing on black and white tile flooring and ceiling high mirrors(?)
Yoshitoshi ABe (Serial Experiments Lain illustrator and original character designer) provided an illustration of Ame-chan for the Needy Girl Overdose (Needy Streamer Overdrive) anime

Good Charlotte's "The Anthem" will never sound complete without "YOU BET KID", to me
The Elite Beat Agents and Divas in front of a blue background. There are bright stars around them as well as circles like the ones from the game behind them. Also in the top left is "LETS ROCK"
Anyone remember Elite Beat Agents?
Can't believe two of my favorite ongoing manga (Akane Banashi and Witch Hat Atelier) are both being adapted by one of my favorite working directors (Ayumu Watanabe) in the same season, and both of them are off to an amazing start. Absolutely blessed
In awe that the Witch Hat anime was actually able to pull off an analogue for some of Shirahama's paneling/layout magic. If this level of quality carries forward, the series is in good hands
I was definitely filling out my notes about Ryukishi's writing style while reading Umineko lol. The family dynamics and point of view shifts even in these early arcs has been so good.
And just diving straight into themes about the ways humanity is treated as a sacrifice for wealth
The world of rakugo is waiting for you, with fart jokes and ghosts galore; all you have to do is sit down and listen.
The article talks about "hattatsu shougai" as being distinct from "neurodivergent" bc it's institutional language that's filtered down into use among young people, but I'd always thought the term "ND" had similar origins, which honestly makes the cultural comparison even more interesting imo
Hooray, glad you had a good time! As a big Higurashi fan I'm excited to make some more progress into my Umineko read-through; it's been great so far
Sakura Con haul! Real happy with the AveMyGOs and Internet Old Person CDs I picked up, but also went a little crazy at the artist alley
It's so full of all the things I loved about Ayumu Watanabe's previous manga adaptations, plus captures the rakugo scenes in a way that captures enough of the storytelling nuance I want but with a presentation that's exciting enough for the Shounen Jump-ness of the source material
The Akane Banashi anime is even better than I was hoping it would be 😭
anime version of the ps2 2001 lineup
Bakuon!! (2016)
Oh, good question! I'm not sure actually, I hadn't thought to look that up. I know that the dam project/protests in the anime was based on similar projects in real life but I don't know if it applied to Shirakawa-go specifically
I've been doing the glasses panel since 2022! I didn't do it at Sakura last year since I was already presenting six other panels and I had just done it two years in a row at Sakura 2023-2024, but decided to bring it back this time because it's fun
That's pretty much how I felt when I first sat down to watch Meganebu ("what could an entire anime about glasses even be about??"), and this panel was in part inspired by that experience, so that's perfect
(Asking for only an hour to talk about Higurashi was a huge mistake, I have realized)
I've updated my Panels webpage with lists of all the anime featured at my Sakura-Con panels from this weekend! Check it out here: satchiikoma.wordpress.com/panels/
I've still got one more panel this morning, so come on by if you want to hear me nerd out about Higurashi for an hour!
Was great to see you there!
💯 Correct, any anime would benefit from having a baseball episode
