Post this image to destroy I-5 truthers forever
This isn’t really related to the main thread, but whenever I think about the NIMBYs who say that density and public transit are unhealthy, I think about this Japan line:
I know "vote harder" is an infuriating piece of advice when it comes from our elected officials and those with power, but when it comes from the ground up it is true: We have to mobilize as many people to vote as possible and send a strong message that fascism and Republicanism are not wanted here.
The UK's New Statesman magazine isn't pulling its punches in this week's edition. I expect many more magazines around the world will publish covers like this in the next few days.
Impossible to disagree with a single word that Ben Rhodes (Obama era NSC official) is saying here:
#Artemis II - A beautiful new image released
The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a the solar eclipse.
Captured by one of the cameras on Orion’s solar array wings.
A bright spot visible below the Moon’s right edge is Saturn. Then a bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. 🚀🌓🌒
NASA shares 1972 vs 2026 photos of Earth.
Russian communists were casually touring Capitol Hill yesterday, while Russia executes prisoners for social media and sends drones into apartment blocks killing families, and sharing intelligence with Iran.
Declaring that no quarter will be given is straightforwardly prohibited under international humanitarian law.
When done to threaten an adversary, the declaration itself amounts to a war crime.

Figure of Western U.S. snow cover area from 2001 to 2026 illustrates a staggering decline in current coverage compared to historical norms. While the historical data for mid-January typically clusters between 400,000 and 600,000 square miles, the line for 2026 sits in unprecedented territory at the very bottom of the graph. On January 15, 2026, the snow cover area plummeted to a record low of 142,700 square miles—less than one-third of the median and the lowest point in the entire 25-year satellite record. This visual gap emphasizes a severe "snow drought," with the 2026 data point trailing significantly behind even the previous record lows, highlighting an extreme and alarming anomaly in winter precipitation.
The western U.S. faces its lowest snowpack on record despite average or above-average rainfall. Warmer temperatures mean more precipitation falls as rain rather than snow, and will worsen droughts in areas like the Pacific Northwest and the Colorado River Basin.

Any American watching this play out between regime forces and journalists overseas would recognize it for what it is.
“I watched him die… then I watched them maneuver his body like a rag doll— only to discover it was because they wanted to count the bullet wounds and see how many they ‘got’, like he was a deer.”

The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

DC inboxes are full! Washingtonians can call local offices of Sens Cantwell and Murray to demand they vote no on any funding for DHS. Took me less than five minutes to leave a message!

If you think American citizens should be summarily executed by masked federal agents, you’re not a patriot.
If you think the lawless goons loyal to our demented pedophile criminal president are greater than the people of Minnesota, you’re not a patriot.
You’re a fucking Nazi.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti, the man fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, was a U.S. citizen with no criminal record, an official said. He was a registered nurse who worked in the intensive-care unit at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis. nyti.ms/4t3ekJW
A photo of the man murdered by ICE today, just before the shooting. He’s standing and holding a phone in his right hand and holding his empty left hand to the sky and looking behind him at a woman running away while an ICE agent closes in on him from the front. On the ground behind the man is a woman that the victim will soon try to help, leading several ICE agents to attack him and pin him to the ground, before shooting him several times.
We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says the victim of today's fatal CBP shooting is a "37-year-old white male who is a Minneapolis resident and we believe he is an American citizen"
A Miami Beach nightclub is drawing intense backlash for playing a rap song by Ye that glorifies Adolf Hitler, while hosting an entourage of right-wing influencers, including Andrew and Tristan Tate, brothers who face charges of rape and human trafficking.
This bill seems like it pretty much just makes cities take a position legislatively on neighborhood retail?
Requirements could easily be set so onerous that they are effectively banned if a municipality wants to 🤷♂️
this is just patently ridiculous, Trump is now running a sham investigation into Chair Powell just because he wants him to lower interest rates faster

What is the WA state government, particularly the governor’s office, doing to prevent abuses by federal agents?
Do we have identification laws for law enforcement agents? Are local police departments being instructed to enforce the law regardless of the perpetrators?
AOC: This has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long time—that it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability. At the end of the day, what we saw today was a murder, and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted.
