I’ll tell you this. A favorite campus dining spot closed last semester, with almost no notice. It’s been replaced by a fully automated kiosk. The kids are pissed. Asking all the right questions about labor and human contact and sociality.
Some of the kids are alright.

New study finds that a short game teaching players how to spot manipulation techniques common in vaccine misinformation made them better at recognizing false claims and more cautious about what they shared online.

A faux newspaper front page with a space shuttle launching into a blue sky. A burnt paper overlay reads “THE VOYAGER DECLARATION HAS LAUNCHED!” Below, bold text says “NASA JOINS THE RESISTANCE,” and a subhead reads: “NASA scientists join a growing rebellion against Trump’s science cuts.” At the bottom are the words: DISSENT, BRAVERY, RESISTANCE.
🚨BREAKING NEWS! 🚨
🚀 the Voyager Declaration has LAUNCHED.
NASA employees join a growing rebellion against Trump’s anti-science, anti-American agenda.

Funding cuts to PBS and NPR, attempts to stop the Wall Street Journal from publishing, Colbert canceled.
Do not take a free press for granted. We need to fight for it.
Stunning! An 8-hour time-lapse to show the Earth is rotating while capturing the Milky Way.
This is not the act of a legitimate government.
One of the most beautiful pictures of Jupiter ever taken.

Climate policy that ignores mental health is incomplete.
Extreme heat drives anxiety, worsens depression, and puts the most vulnerable at risk—yet barely gets a mention in preparedness plans.

Another day of reminding everyone of Carl Sagan’s eerily accurate warning about the dangers of not being able to ask skeptical scientific questions to those in power or authority.
Finished my last ever exam of undergrad and then heard that our lab just lost a major EPA grant…too many emotions today.

FOUR DAYS until we STAND UP FOR SCIENCE! ⬇️☀️📣
WHERE WILL YOU BE ON MARCH 7th?
We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.
This Friday, where will you be?

Huge kudos to @standupforscience.bsky.social for many reasons, including that the DC event will have "accessible restroom facilities, seating areas, and ASL interpretation throughout the event." Thank you to all the amazing organizers and all putting in time to fight for science!
Just saying.
No Amazon. No Walmart. No Target. No Disney. No Google. No Apple. No Visa or Mastercard. And especially no Facebook or Twitter. Buy essentials such as medicine, food, and emergency supplies, of course, but make those purchases at small, local businesses and use cash. The purpose of today’s economic blackout is to send a clear message: We have the power.
A google sheet that is keeping track of graduate admissions freezes and reductions. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this information, but this is bad.
This will do significant damage to the STEM training and future workforce.

An unverified list of REU & similar summer research cancellations.
About a week ago, I posted on Bluesky about 1 program w/o identifying (it's on this list). Not as long as I thought it would be and I have a few students who have offers for this summer so far.

He nails it.
So incredibly heartened by my colleagues who are fighting like hell for a world where people have access to the arts and humanities, not because it serves STEM, but because this is about nourishing our humanity
What the actual fuck?! America, it’s time to rise. When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty!
khan academy has a helpful video on sig figs!
We have been careful to avoid using the word coup, but it’s time to call it what it is—this is a coup. Trump signed an executive order granting only the attorney general or the president the authority to interpret laws executed by the executive branch.
