I get that, I’m just trying to get my head around the story that’s now being told.
I can’t envisage how the PM wouldn’t be told that Mandleson had failed UKSV. I just can’t believe that.
But Starmer does seem to have jumped the gun in announcing the appointment. Was it too embarrassing to retract?

The story that’s coming out is that the Foreign Office didn’t tell the PM that Mandleson failed the vetting process.
I just can’t believe that is possible.
Who would take the decision not to inform the PM and override UKSV?
