Sometimes writing is spending a lot of time crafting an intricate story with complex character backstories and crafting very realistic scenes and settings, pouring your heart and soul onto the page, and sometimes it's trying to figure out if the term "c*m-soaked" is hyphenated or not.
I prepared myself for "the talk" when I had kids but I did not prepare myself for having to explain a/b/o dynamics and fictional secondary gender as an additional offshoot of said talk and wow, parenting is weird sometimes.

That's totally understandable, especially if you're going for some sort of enemies or rivals to lovers vibes. I think the audience needs to see that their animosity has some chemistry potential, but them interacting by that point is the overall point... even if it's a *negative* interaction!
I think a lot depends on total length instead of an overall specific checkpoint. If I haven't seen at least a mention of the LI by 25% in, I start to wonder if there will be one.

I almost never DNF a book, mostly because if I started it, I want to finish. If I do DNF, I rarely review unless it was ableist, racist, transphobic, etc in a way someone else NEEDS to be aware of before picking it up.
