I’m building a foundational reading list for our lab (systems & circuit neuroscience, compneuro, modeling, neuromodulators, population coding etc.).

I’d like to crowdsource recommendations.

Which review(s) would you consider mandatory reading for the next generation of researchers?

Whether the system can be flexibly redirected to prioritize specific locations has been unclear. Using large-scale #Neuropixels recordings in freely behaving rats, we find that both sweeps – and the internal direction signals driving them – are dynamically modulated moment by moment. (4/6)

Very nice! Unfortunately, when I click in the link and log in with my account the kindle option does not appear. Probably because my account is from another country (?)

Survey: What are neuroscience’s most transformative new tools? Which new tools—including artificial intelligence, deep-learning methods, genetic tools and advanced neuroimaging—are making the largest impact?

To identify the most transformative tools and technologies in the past five years, @thetransmitter.bsky.social surveyed readers and contributors and worked with a market-research firm to interview neuroscientists around the world. See what they had to say: www.thetransmitter.org/methods/what...

Thrilled to share that our work is now published in Science! ✨

We found a preference for visual objects in the mouse spatial navigation system where they dynamically refine head-direction coding. In short, objects boost our inner compass! 🧭

Astrocyte networks are much larger than previously thought, which “flips the way we think about astrocytes and what their networks may mean,” says @liddelowsa.bsky.social.

Fig. 3: Oscillatory representation dynamics during flight and its relationship with the wing-beat cycle. | Nature

A new study by Forli, Fan, Qi & Yartsev 2025 shows that wingbeat cycle in bats is #rhythmic at 8Hz ❗❗& like the #rat #stepping, internal hippocampal representations can synchronize with the wingbeat phase.

I'm pleased to share our new work, “Spatio-temporal organization of network activity patterns in the hippocampus”, out in @cp-cellreports.bsky.social !
With Demi Brizee & David Dupret, we track how oscillations and spiking behaviour map onto hippocampal layers using an LFP-based embedding.
