Environment groups want ‘national interest’ defined in Liberals' One Economy law The government needs to have a 'national conversation' about what it means to have a project meet Bill C-5's criteria, says Anna Johnston, a staff lawyer with West Coast Environmental Law.

I would argue that for a project to be in our "national interest" it needs to respect Indigenous rights, align with our climate and biodiversity targets and deliver lasting and equitably-distributed benefits. #BillC-5 #cdnpoli www.hilltimes.com/story/2025/0...

Enviro groups have a fraction of the power of industry. They act in the public interest. Industry acts in its own interest. More importantly, if the feds wanted to fast-track a highway through your neighbourhood, wouldn't you want to have a say? Wouldn't you want your local government to have a say?

For more details on what #BillC-5 does, check out this blog: www.wcel.org/blog/bill-c-...

It was written prior to the House amendments. One change from what the blog says is that relevant information about projects must be made publicly available. It's arguably C-5's one redeeming feature. #cdnpoli
