Ok, I see your point now. I understand this is a wrong use of the word nutrient here to actually refer to communities that are richer in nitrogen-loving species. Sorry if we have used a bad wording in the title. Shame that we did not realise it. It was not intended
Posts by Jonathan Lenoir 🌳🌲🌴
The title does not say or even imply that we measured individual plant nutrients? We are clearly mentioning the community level of analysis. We basically showed how communities are getting enriched or not in plant species that love soil nitrogen, more open conditions, warmer conditions, etc.
*about
Why do you consider our title misleading? The title is about community composition, not avout individual species N content?

The #BioShifts working group made it to Science & Vie 🤩 I used to read this French scientific outreach magazine back in the late 1990's 😍 My teenager me couldn't imagine that 😅 I am so proud for the #BioShifts team 🌳🌲🌴🪻🐸🦋🪸🐠 Our research funding body #FRB will also be happy 😁

I am so proud of this paper ⬇️ recently published in PNAS 🤩 Four years in the making and countless computing hours to get bioclimatic velocities from species distribution models #SDMs that were tailored to each species and study from which we extracted empirical estimates of species range shift rates
Climate niche models correctly predicted the direction of some empirically documented range shifts for bird species in the genus Tyrannus. CREDIT: Jeewantha Bandara.
Climate niche models underestimate the speed with which species move in response to climate change, according to comparisons between the models and observed shifts for more than 3,500 species. Median rates were four times faster than predicted. In PNAS: https://ow.ly/Mokn50YCqty
Non, les espèces végétales migrent moins rapidement en latitude mais chez les espèces animales, il y a aussi de très fortes variations suivant les groupes taxonomiques étudiés dans la littérature scientifique

After 4yr of hard work to compare empirical species range positions' shifts from the #BioShifts DB against predictions from niche-based models trained on climate & tailored to methodological attributes of each species & study, we found species shift ahead of models' predictions! 🦋

Genetic diversity matters for species on the move in response to climate change ⬇️
We found that genetic diversity interacts w/ the velocity of climate change to explain the velocity at which species shift their range positions over time
shorturl.at/682E3
Genetic diversity shapes climate-driven species redistribution:
🚨Genetic diversity slows species range shifts, especially at the trailing edge and under rapid climate change—consistent with the evolutionary rescue hypothesis.
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Does genetic diversity help species keep up with, or tolerate, climate change? 🌡️🌍
Our new BioShifts paper shows that high genetic diversity 🧬:
1) Reduces range contractions under fast warming
2) Accelerates range expansion under moderate warming
