If you have (UK) Conservative friends please get them to read this. If we drill oil that would otherwise stay in the ground we simply delay net zero and raise the temperature at which it’s achieved. (And it doesn’t affect the price we pay for energy.)

A climber placing an ice screw in the middle of a steep wall of snow and ice.

There's just 2 weeks left to get your tickets booked for the biggest mountaineering event in London!

This year's MEF lecture features talks on the emerging threat of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods and one of the most impressive first ascents of recent years.

Stratigraphic evidence for modern‐like glacier extents in south‐central Alaska within the last glacial period (MIS 3) The last (Wisconsinan) glacial period was punctuated in North America by two glacial maxima, known as the Early and Late Wisconsinan glaciations. In Alaska, these maxima and their subsequent retreats...

The southernmost glacier in Norway is about to extinct soon! 😰

Breifonn was not exactly a small glacier at the end of the LIA (6 km²).
But only scattered patches totalising 0.15 km² remain today, meaning disappearance in the next few years... 😱

In light of high temperatures and recent collapses in the Alps, we're resharing our 2022 piece from geomorphologist Ludovic Ravanel on mountain stability in the Mont Blanc Massif.

Despite being 3 years old, it contains evergreen advice on warning signs of collapse and areas to avoid in the heat.
